University of Michigan Football
Ok-- so my boyfriend is a huuuuuuuuuuge UM football fan! And yes we live in Ohio-- so he is one of very few UM fans in our state! Next weekend UM plays Miami University (Ohio) for their home opener and we got tickets! My youngest sister goes to Miami (she is an AXO there), so we are taking her and her boyfriend along with us!
I have a few questions about tailgating and I was wondering if anyone could fill me in about how tailgating works at UM. At Akron it is bring your own beer, food, etc. and I just wanted to make sure UM works the same way. What I mean by that is at Cleveland Browns games for example, there are organized tailgate parties where you pay like $10 and get all the food and beer you want-- and I just wanted to make sure there is nothing like that there. I know some schools also have tailgating rules and was wondering if Michigan has any?! Also, if anyone could give us any good tips on where to park, etc.-- that would be great!! Thanks! |
I can't give you any tailgating tips for there but I just had to include that my BF is a major UM fan too. Being the OSU fan that I am.....I refuse to buy him anything blue and yellow!!! :p

HAHAHA It is the same for him-- although I am not an OSU fan-- but evvvvvvvveryone else we know is!! We are planning to walk out at our reception to the Michigan Fight Song when we get married! It will be the only time in the wolrd you will see hundreds of Ohioans clap to the Michigan Fight Song-- obviously not by choice!

It's been a while since I've had the pleasure of tailgating at a U of M game. :( However, from what I remember, there was no pay money and they'll give you food and drink situation. Most people bring there own. Lots of students who live in the houses around the stadium open up their lawns and charge money to park (less than the stadium) and you just hang out and eat/drink there. As long as you are not causing a rucus you should have no problem. Saturdays at the Big House are a site to behold, that's for sure! Have fun!
On the OSU front, my friend's boyfriend came to town from England a while back. Her Ohio relatives came up to visit, too, and brought him an OSU sweatshirt. He wore it on the trip back to the UK. At the Detroit airport security, the guard said "Full body cavity search for this one!" The boyfriend said "WHY?!?!?" The guard said "Standard procedure for anyone wearing an Ohio State shirt!" :p |
Thanks Kathy! That OSU story is awesome!

5 year + tailgating veteran here!
Everything is BYOB. If you or anyone else drinking is underage, watch out for the cops on bikes. MIPs are plentiful. Tailgate on the golf course... it's the place to be. Parking is kinda expensive, but worth it. Please, for your safety, park with your own kind. Unless you can take the taunting. Portopotties are alright... use them early in the day. BTW, get there between 8am-9:30am. Golf course parking fills up. If you have to go, and the jon's are quite dirty, either hold it till you get to the stadium, or go to Krogers (located across State St. near CVS and the car wash). There is also a liquor store located near there. Bring a frisbee, or a football, or something to do. Just sittin there getting drunk isn't fun. Notre Dame people last year brought a slip n' slide. That provided hours of entertainment for all. If you're going to the game, you might want to just wear Michigan stuff, even tho you are not a Michigan fan. It will save many marshmellows thrown at your head. I cant think of anything else but if I do I'll post more. I'll be with the group of Phi Mus/TKEs/Delt Sigs. We usually set up camp right off the State St entrance of the golf course. Enjoy! And GO BLUE! |
Thank you so much! That really helps! So cops bust underagers alot? The problem is we are all 21 (actually 26) but my younger sister is not 21 until next month! What are the chances she will be busted?

I'm so jealous that your sister gets to go! It sold out so early, I don't know any other Miami people who are going...
|
Well we didn't even get tickets until after Abby left for school! We got them on August 18th! I did not know if Miami had them...so we went through Micigan! I emailed their ticket office to see if they had anymore and they emailed me back saying a few! So I called the next day and scored 4 tickets!! They are on the Michigan side though-- so for a Miami girl it sucks! haha When I ordered them they told me that the set I got had been returned-- so it was luck! I wish you had tickets so we could meet up!! Oh well-- I will come down to Miami soon- I promise!

Ok...just a little follow-up on the game-
We left at 5:30am (I went to bed at 1:30 and woke up at 4:30)from the Cleveland area and arrived in Ann Arbor problem free around 8:15. By 8:30 we were in our spot to tailgate at the golf course (thanks to PMMama00 and all of the others who suggested it)!! Holy crap is all I can say! Michigan fans are sooooo hardcore! A few Miami fans, including my sister and her boyfriend, were sprinkled throughout and I was actually surprised to see so many of them! So we unloaded the car and started to party! We had a crazzzzy time and when it was time to go to the game we were kind of bummed. So we packed up and headed to the game...and once again WOW! So many people everywhere, pushing their way to get into the stadium and then to get to their seats....but eventually we got inside the stadium and to our seats. If you have never been to the Big House it is something I suggest doing once in your lifetime-- it is an unbelievable sight! I have seen it in pictures and on tv-- but when you are actually one of those people sitting there it is so exciting! So the game starts and you can read highlights or maybe you watched it on tv-- UM won 43-10! Also, we didn't quite make it through the entire game-- it was over 80 outside and I can only imagine the temperature inside the stadium-- so after too much partying and it being so hot-- we became exhausted and after the 3rd quarter we left. We went back to the car and left the golf course....went and had some lunch at Applebees by the highway entrance ramp....and then headed home. We made it back in 3 hours since I had to stop on the way home to get gas...so I pulled in our driveway at 7:00pm. Today I am sooooooo tired-- but am looking forward to having today and tomorrow off! Go Blue! |

Yeah it was wayyy too hot yesterday. We left in the 3rd. Not to mention I was pissed because there were people in our seats who weren't supposed to be there so I got stuck standing in the aisle. AOX-- I won't be goin down there. Unfortunately I only work weekends so whenever there is an away game, i have to work! |
