Recruitment Counselor Woes

Hi! I just wanted to know if anyone else was feeling down about being a recruitment counselor (we're called Rho Gammas here)... I love my other rho gams, but i miss my sisters sooooo much!! i think i'm feeling down because bid day is about 2 weeks away and i'm starting to feel my letters again!! Anyway, are any other recruitment counselors feeling the same way?

Hi Laurie,

It's totally normal to miss your sisters! When I was a Recruitment Counselor, I couldn't wait to get "home."

But take this opportunity to get to know a great group of ladies-- your other Rho Gammas! Think of this as your summer camp sorority-- get together for girls' nights, make up Rho Gamma songs and little gifts for your PNMs... you'll be back in letters soon!

Advice from a previous Gamma Chi

I was a Gamma Chi (that's what we called them) last summer. It was one of the hardest things I've done to disaffiliate from my sorority, but also one of the most fulfilling. At first it was hard; I didn't really want to get to know the other GC's, but I did want to make the best of this experience that I really wanted to participate in. I jumped in headfirst to really get to know the other girls and help everyone else do the same. By the end of the summer, we were all such good friends, and I loved spending time with the other GC's. For a minute (not too long at all), I was so close to the Gamma Chi's, it was hard to just jump back into life as an ADPi immediately. It definately was one experience I will never forget, and learned about myself. I became a whole lot more Panhellenic-minded, and understood why the other girls joined their respective sororities, not wondering why they didn't join mine....
There was laughter in abundance, and many, many tears, but overall, I wouldn't trade it for the world! I wish I could've done it again.
Enjoy your time as a Rho Gamma---you'll never experience anything else like it!!

I know what you mean. I was the only rho chi from my chapter (yes we were still called rho chis! :) ) and it was tough not even having fellow sisters who were also PX's. It was also hard to do informational pop-ins during parties and not act any differently at my sorority's parties - especially during pref!

But I used the time to get to know my fellow PX's and deaffiliated Panhel officers. I was also my sorority's Panhel rep that year (we had immediate fall formal rush, so deaffiliating to be a PX wasn't an issue) and getting to know women in all the sororities helped me with that office.

Nonetheless... we didn't do a rho chi revealing on bid day, because people could defer their bids for up to 3 days, but on that third day, at the very moment we were allowed to display our affiliations, I wasted no time scrambling into an AEPhi t-shirt :p
