First time on the "other" side..
Hey everyone! Rushing at my school doesn't start for about another 2/3 weeks... we don't even start school for another week and a half. But when rushing does begin it will be my first time rushing as a sister. I just got into my sorority last semester, and I am actually really excited for Rush. I know a lot of Greeks do not like Recruitment and it can be a stressful time, but even though I have a tough and busy course load I am looking foward to it.
So I was wondering if anyone else just went through their first rush on the "other side," or if they will be doing so soon. If you just finished rush what did you like/dislike about it? Or if you're still waiting for rush to start like me- are you looking foward to it, what do you expect, etc? Just wondering how other people feel about their first time going through rush as a sister or brother. Personally I can't wait to meet all the rushees, to wear my Rush Fall 2004 Shirt, to get dressed up for Pref. etc. :D I'm just glad that I never again have to be a rushee nervously awaiting to see if I get a bid to where I want to be! |
There are many threads on this subject in the rush forum. You can do a search in just the rush forum. Here's one thread to start you out.

i just went through rush on the sister side for the first time and had very mixed feelings. first, i hate to tell you but the nervousness doesn't go away after initiation. now you have the nervousness of "will the girl i rush today like us?" "will she come back?". if she does come back, you can never really tell if she's coming back because she loves your house or if she's just coming back to fill up her schedule. if she doesn't come back, you wonder if it's something you did. during rush, we were told to make every girl want to be in our sorority and make every girl fall in love with us from the first day to pref... even if you are not interested in her. it sucks to meet a girl who you know likes you more and more with every sister she meets but you know the second she walks out the door she'll probably be dropped because of some physical inperfection. in short, it can be deceptive and often superficial. personally, i now question every nice thing that was said to me during rush because i will never know if it was because they really liked me or they just wanted me to like them. i also had a few friends rush this year (one was a legacy at my house) and they were all dropped. then of course, they get upset and ask you why your house dropped them but in reality, no one really wants to know the answer to that question. maybe all of this is just true because i go to a large school with a competitive greek system with 1100-1300 pnms each year but i think that other people who go to large greek schools will agree with what i'm saying. on the up side, i became SO much closer with my sisters during rush in a way that surpasses sisterhood activities or socials or anything like that. we came out with quota + of absolutely amazing girls. our girls have the total package that we were looking for. however, i didn't really enjoy rush. i feel that it was too competitive, but i guess it was just a means to an end. good luck with your recruitment though. i'm sure that your chapter will work hard and get amazing girls! :)
