Description:
The Ron Brown Scholarship is open to African-American high school seniors who are academically talented and highly motivated. Applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent academics, exceptional leadership potential, financial need and impact their communities through activities and service to others.

Candidates must be pursuing full-time undergraduate degrees. Awards are
$10,000 per year for four years.

Description
This scholarship is open to minority undergraduate or graduate students pursuing degrees in one of the following fields: chemistry, engineering, physics, material science and information management. In order to apply, you must be a high academic achiever and of African American, Asian, Pacific Island, American Indian, Native Alaskan or Hispanic descent. You must also be a U.S. citizen or be a visa-holding Permanent Resident.

Sponsored by Working Woman magazine, the Girls Going Places award is for exceptional young women, ages 12 to 16, who set high standards and are on the way to achieving their goals. Entries are due September 1, 2000.

Do you know an exceptional girl, ages 12 to 16, who sets her sights high and is on the way to achieving her goals? Tell us her story and she could win a $15,000 college scholarship. In 1,000 or fewer words, answer one or more of the following questions, explaining why she deserves the Girls Going
Places award:

How does she make a difference in her school, her community, or people's lives?

How has she shown budding entrepreneurship or financial sense? What concrete accomplishments has she achieved, revealing her determination to excel?


Entries are due Sept. 1, 2000.

In November, the 15 finalists will be honored at an awards ceremony, and their stories will be in the December/January 2001 issue of Working Woman.
