How do you relieve stress??

i have a real problem with stress. i worry and cause myself to lose it over little things. i don't have a short temper at all, but i have a problem with letting things roll off my back.

i have been a tense person ever since high school. mainly because i want everything perfect and planned. now i KNOW that nothing always go as planned. change is a part of life. so dont tell me that.
i stress over it anyway.

now it has dramatically change my health. i get headaches a lot. i get aches and pains. my weight has even changed. i know that there is medical proof in stress releasing a chemcial in your stomach area that cause a little weight gain. i have changed my eating habits. i haven't drank soda in 6 months and i eat sweets not very often.

is there anything that i can do to calm myself down and relax? i want to take it easy, but i am afraid of not achieving my goals.
but i want to be healthy too.

went to my hairstylist for a shampoo and haircut, more on the shampoo and less on the haircut. Sooooooo relaxing.

1. Exercise...either cardio, weights or yoga
2. A nice hot bubble bath and a trashy magazine! :)

Shopping does help..............

Driving (fast if possible, depends on traffic) with heavy metal music blaring VERY loud.

Golf helps too

A bubble bath and warm milk.

Meditation. Find a quiet place, close your eyes and count your breath. One on the in breath, two on the out breath, three on the in breath....etc. till you get to ten and then start over. If you find yourself getting distracted by other thoughts, don't worry about it. Just let them pass through your mind and get back to counting breath. Do it for 15-20 minutes and I think you'll be pleased and surprised with the results.

And if that doesn't work, learn to play the ukulele! George Harrison said that you can't play a uke without smiling. It's a different kind of relaxation, but you'll enjoy the results.

Get a quick cheap massage. The Whole Foods Chain offers chair massages here. THey usually run about a dollar a minute. I usually go for a 15 - 20 minute on once a week. Theyre great.

How does that relax someone?

aephi alum 08-21-2004 01:45 PM

Exercise
Go for a walk (not really for exercise, more a get-out-of-the-house/office walk)
A relaxing soak in a bubble bath with a good book and maybe a glass of wine

And sometimes, if there's something in particular that's getting to you, it helps to find a friend who's not involved and vent to them.
