Another University of Texas rush story

My daughter is going through rush at Texas. I will try to post a rush thread as best I can from what she tells me. Today everyone had the first round of parties. They started at 9:30 and finish at 7:30 tonight. A long day!!! I have been wondering how it was going and her brother who lives in Austin just called to say he drove through west campus after work and just happened to see her waiting for her next party. She said she was having fun and that it wan't as bad as I had said. ( I had told her she has never been as tired, mentally and physically as she will be during rush) Her brother said he just laughed to himself and thought "It is only the first day." Hopefully she will call tonight and I can post some more.

DAY 2

Well, we survived the first round of parties! When I talked to my daughter last night she was tired and said "everybody was so nice" and that she had a great time.

This morning we found out she was invited back to 13 parties!! I am very proud of her. We are from a small town and the only girls she knows in sororities are the ones she has met this spring and summer when visiting the campus. Although I was a Gamma Phi umpteen years ago, and made sure she had recs for most of the sororities.

She elected to only go to six parties even though she could have gone to eight. She will go back this afternoon and find out her schedule. There are four parties tonight and four tomorrow monring. When I find our her schedule I will give more info on each sorority.

The only advice I gave her today was to have a list of questions to use if there is a lag in the conversation. (And we all know there will be!! Even the girls we think will never run out of things to say generally do at some time during rush!! LOL) And to make sure each group knows how excited she is to be invited back.

Well, more waiting. I had forgotten that part about rush. Rush, rush, rush,....wait, wait, wait.

To UTEXAGIRL - hope you and my daughter get to meet after this is over. Maybe in the same pledge class. Who knows?

I'm glad she had a good time! Are you still active in Gamma Phi?

My daughter just called and she is all concerned about her Pref dress. It is a color, not black. She said that everyone else is wearing black. I told her not to worry, that after Pref when the actives are talking about her and someone is saying "Which girl?" they can say "You know - the girl who was wearing the cute "color" dress." She doesn't want them to say "You know - the girl who was wearing the black dress" and for someone to say "Which girl in a black dress - they all had on black dresses!" Oh well, I did tell her that if she found a dynamite black dress we would talk about it.

You know I thought I was prepared for this - the wait and see, but I have to admit it is more nerveracking than I imagined. And I don't remember it taking so many days, but I am sure it did. Just seems faster when you are going through it. LOL

Xylochick216 - no I am not active in Gamma Phi. I live in a small town and there are not any alumnae groups around here. And only a couple of Gamma Phi chapters in this part of the country. Although I did see where Gamma Phi colonized at Texas A&M last year. Maybe someday when my youngest daughter gets out of school.

I think you gave your daughter wonderful advice. I think she will stand out more wearing a non-black preference dress. It will definitely help the sisters remember her!

:D
