Best Jobs to Pay For College

My significant other is taking this academic year off to work full time and save up for coming back to school.

Credit wise he's completed a bit over 5 semesters. He would really like to be able to find a job that would allow him to move out of his house (parent's are charging him rent by the way) but make enough so he's still saving for college and not just making ends meet.

What would you say are the best paying jobs for someone in the middle of a degree taking time off? Any reccomendations for jobs to look into?

Unfortunately, if he wants to earn money fast, usually the sh*ttiest jobs pay the best money.

If he's in good shape, he could look into construction, general labour, etc.

If he's got a great personality, he could probably do pretty well at bartending/waitering/etc.

Government jobs often pay well, too. I worked a summer doing travelling surveys all over the state. It was a cush job and if I'd stuck with it (I ended up getting sick halfway through the summer) I would have taken home upwards of $15k for 12 weeks of work and 3 day weekends.

This is kinda specialized, but I made $16 (when I start freshman year)-$22 (when I had to quit senior year) an hour coaching gymnastics all through college.

Stripping -- hey, all the girls at the clubs tell me that they are just paying their way through college.

There are a lot of sales jobs that don't require a college degree. The pay potential is pretty high, but unfortunately it isn't guaranteed, so it may depend on his personality (personally, I'm a HUGE people person, but I HATE sales). Bartending/Cocktailing pays good too if you're at the right location.

He's currently working (doing manual labor) at a Menards distribution center, but he wants a better paying and more enjoyable job.

He's not really keen on the idea of bartending / waitering, though I have brought it up to him, it's just not his cup of tea.

A government job might be a possibility, I'll keep my ears open about any he could apply for....

Most colleges allow staff to take classes at the university for free or for a nominal fee. So I would suggest working for a school he wouldn't mind attending

Jobs at the jails pay pretty good and a lot of places are willing to train to have someone do it.

Have him checkout USAjobs.gov. With a lot of government jobs they pay for you to go back to school. Even though he does not yet have a degree he may be able to access these benefits. Government jobs in his field of study are most likely to hire him. Even if its an intern or an adminstrative assistant. Also the admins make bookoo bucks in the private corporations. I work in a private fortune 100 corporation and I have a friend here who never went to college and is making 70,000 a year with benefits. Shes darn good at her job too. although she may be an acception. I would try that out though. good luck:)

the stripper at the bar last Friday told me his mom put her way through college this way as did his sister and he is following the family tradition.

Get hired full-time at a call center for one of the major companies in the area (phone companies are really good). They usually pay 10-12/hour and they generally have tuition reimbursement (or they just pay it) for full-time employees

There's a guy in several of my Curriculum Instruction courses that is doing that.

As for me: when I worked at HyVee in high school I got bumped around to just about every department in the store. Even ran 2 of the departments when the managers were on vacation. So the store managers gave me lots of raises. The result is that I make more per hour than my boss does at the HyVee deli I work at now and I'm too lazy to look for any better paying job that's as flexible.

He could look into working in a community residence for a social service agency. Most of these places pay like $10-$12 an hour and you really just need a HS diploma. Plus many of them are the types of settings where there is downtime so you could get school work done. If you are a FT employee you can get health coverage too.
