Pledging 1st Sem Freshman?

Does your chapter do it? If not, is it because of the administration banning it, your chapter deciding not to or for another reason? Do transfer students have to have been at the school for a semester?

My active chapter allowed pledging of 1st semester freshman and as far as I know, transfers could pledge immediately. I pledged as a first semester Freshman.

The Kappa Upsilon chapter welcomes any student for pledgeship no matter if they have been enrolled 1 day or 6 years, and transferring Brothers need only provide membership credentials from their previous chapter; no waiting period is required.

I pledged my very first semester of college, and I'm glad that I did for a number of reasons:

1) It helped me get to know more people outside of my classes, especially a lot of upperclassmen who were in my then-prospective major,

2) I was able to demonstrate early in my college career that I could handle a variety of resposibilities and maintain focus on my work,

3) It established support when I was feeling down or stressed out

My pledging experience was indeed a memorable experience that I will never, ever forget. :)

Same deal for Mu chapter. :)

That said, I pledged first semester of my junior year. We had people from all years in my pledge class...even some seniors who were graduating in December. It was kind of cool to have that sort of mix. :)

Delta Phi does not pledge 1st semester freshmen. Our administration will not allow for us to do so.

I pledged as a first semester freshman! It was really weird because when I was pledging all of my upperclassmen friends kept asking me why I was pledging in the fall since APO usually pledges in the spring.

I know we had done it in the past, but then they deterred away from it for a while and brought it back last year. First semester the brotherhood voted to only pledge in the fall, but second semester we decided to pledge both semesters.

Mu Alpha allows it, but I never thought it was the greatest of ideas.

Mu Chapter has pledge classes both semesters, too. Officers are also elected at the end of every semester...although people elected to an office in fall can choose to run again for that office in spring.

Same with Epsilon Mu. I transferred to UMD and pledged the Spring semester of my first year. My pledge class was mainly freshmen! It was cool though to have all my little babies to look after!

We also plegde both semesters! I didn't know there were chapters that didn't!!!

Theta Alpha pledges first semester freshman. I was a 1st sem. frosh when I pledged. I do admit it's not the greatest of ideas as we lose many of our freshman that just pledged in the fall during the spring to social houses. Many of them don't come back.

Tau Mu has the same as Kappa Upsilon. We don't care if someone has been a student for only today or going into grad school or med school (we have one on campus). Also, so far, there is no waiting period for transferring. One of the decisions going against transferring (for me) was having to wait 4 weeks to be a brother of that chapter. That chapter is Psi Omega.

My chapter does it, i mean it has its positives and negative, if you dont insteal the spirit of apo in them then they will go somewhere lese but if you insteal that love for the frat and show them that this is something to take serious your have a brother who is going to work hard from the frat for 4 year and hopefully afterwards, to many people stop being active after they graduate which in my book isnt good. this should be a life commitment not just a college thing
