When asking for a rec...
This is not meant to be hateful, only helpful.
Ladies, PLEASE know up front that you will have to tell the person writing a rec WHERE you are rushing. If you don't want to reveal that info, we CANNOT write you a rec as we will not know where to send it. And, if you do not want to give us your personal info, we cannot write a rec, either. I think most everyone writing a rec is required to give your name, parents' names, address, etc. Thanks! |

I'm no longer writing recommendations for the fall because I've been so overwhelmed with requests as well as my personal life, but I always made it a requirement for me personally to have the PNM send me a picture to send in with the recommendation. I made it clear, no picture=no recommendation sent. |

http://forums.greekchat.com/gcforums...520#post677520 Still looking for a few NPC volunteers to add onto the list. Let me know if you are interested in helping out, either to direct PNM's to their area XYZ alum or Alum Panhell, or if you will write the rec yourself. Thanks! |
PNM's should be sure to check out the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) website. Here, they can find out if there is an alumnae panhellenic nearby. (Go to the Directory section of the Alumnae Panhellenics area of the site.)
Those alumnae panhels that have websites are linked. For contact information for those with no website, email NPCCentral@npcwomen.org The local alumnae panhellenic often can and will help with recommendations/references. |
Also please don't confuse the sorority. I was asked to write a rec for another organization than the one I am in, and that just didn't sit too well with me.
|
Just a few other tidbits:
1. PM the alum you wish to contact. 2. Keep us updated. If you change your mind regarding a rec please let us know. Don't ask for one and then not correspond with us any further. Also, I am no longer writing recs. If you have contacted me regarding one previously I will still write it. |
And I have a few more!
1. Allow the alum enough time before your rush starts! You need to allow her time to correspond with you, get your info, write it and get it sent to the chapter. I say you should at LEAST expect that to take 2 weeks. The earlier you get in touch with somebody the better. Do not expect to contact someone 5 days before your rush starts and get a rec done. 2. Be timely with providing your information to the alum that may write a rec for you. If they agree to help you, send them your info right away. 3. PM the alum you want to contact rather than posting in each forum asking for a recommendation. That is the purpose of the recommendation thread. |

Just TELL me if you don't need one any longer. Don't make me think I still need to write one for you!!!!!!!!!!!!! Asking someone to write a rec is having them stick their neck out for you in a sense. It is a big favor for someone to write a rec. Treat it as such. (For the ladies I have written recs for and become friends with, this does not apply to you. Y'all have been great. And I am so glad we have gotten to know one another. But, not everyone is as great as y'all have been.) |
My sentiments exactly. There is some preparation work involved in writing recs. You can't just sit down and pop one out in 5 minutes.
I've really enjoyed my time writing recs this year. This is my first year as an alum, and I also have met many wonderful women. :) |
Excellent points so far!
I must say that the pnm's for whom I've written recs have been very gracious and helpful with information.
Just to give pnm's an idea of what you're asking of an alumna who writes a rec: * About one and a half to two hours of her time to complete forms, compose a letter, and print a photo. * Postage to mail the rec in a large envelope so that it arrives nice, flat, and pretty, and for the SASE included for acknowledgement by the chapter. * The materials (letterhead, photo paper, envelopes) to make this all happen. * That she sign below a statement that says something to the effect of "I hereby endorse this potential new member." That being said, it's time well spent for Panhellenic good will. As I wrote to one pnm, "Just promise me that when you are an alumna you will write recs too!" :D |

I agree, the large majority of PNM have been great and it has been fun to get to know people! |
OohTeenyWahine, that was the same as mine! I knew everyone was getting the same thing. I just quoted the ADPi part and said to ask one of them, I only do them for my sorority.
