recruitment situation- how would you respond?
So I was talking with someone from one of the other fraternities on campus and he told me about something that happened the other day during their recruitment. My reaction was not what occured during the situation.
Recruitment activity: attending a triple-A baseball game with 2 incoming students, 3 active members and 2 HeadQuarters staff members. Situation: GLO and university rules on recruitment call for dry events. HQ members come back from concession stand with beers. My reaction was for one of the actives to quietly remind the HQ members of the recruitment rules and ask them to either dispose of the drinks or leave and drink them out of sight of the potential members. |
Thats kind of a stretch as a technical violation. Using that as an example th baseball game itself would be a no-recruitment zone because it serves beer.
I doubt that your IFC would be all that upset about it. Maybe the sororities are more anal about that stuff? |
good call.
Did the HQ guys forget? |
I too think that Is a stretch, I mean as long as the HQ guys did not offer the beer to the potential recruits, and the Brothers were not drinking, I don't believe its a wet rush event.
|
And was it touted as a rush event? It could have just been two HQ guys in town who came out to a baseball game with their brothers and some of their brothers friends.

As a follow up, when is rush over? How would IFC know if this is a rush "event" or just friends hanging out. Is rush still going on? Do fraternities at ISU rush year round? For example, I was friends with independents and at times we would hang out with my brothers. While we were not "actively" rushing them, in a way we were. By virtue of showing them "our brotherhood" etc. Note: we could bid a man at any time during the semester. It didn't usually happen, but the possibility was there to do so. My point is that where or how do members of a fraternity draw the line between an "official" event and one that is not? Especially if your campus recruits year round. |
