Starting a GLO

Hey everyone.
My best friends have and are in the process of completing forming a fraternity.
My question is who do new GLO's go to to make sure that no men/women in the future also use the same letters as they have?

is there some sort of frat/soror registration???
n e info is welcomed

thanks a lot

There isn't one, really. There are a number of locals that were formed in isolation that ended up having the same letters. There was a Phi Beta Chi sorority on my campus that doesn't seem to have anything to do with the semi-national (~18 chapters?) Christian sorority Phi Beta Chi. I was in a local Delta Chi Epsilon, which became ADPi in 1998; sometime around 1998 a local fraternity was formed in New York with Delta Chi Epsilon as its letters. -shrug-

One of the better things to do is to form a website and have it listed on greekpages.com once your org has been approved on campus. greekpages can list all chapters of an org, and all orgs on a campus, though they aren't always up to date.

But if you're listed online somewhere, someone who does a search for that combo of letters should find their org first.

Try some search engines with your Letters, it seems that google is the hot one now.

If you can get axcess to a Bairds Manual, Library, will give all current Greek Organizations.

greekpages.com is another, you can go to Letter designations to check form there!

It is tough to start a Expanding National unless, it is say a Latino or Multi Culture Organization.

I started a local in 1965 and often wondered if I could have made it National!

Good Luck in any aspect! :D :)

If you really want to "claim" your letters, first, you have to incorporate, and then you have to register your name as a trademark.
