I'm not from the Bay Area, but I did live there for awhile, and its definitely one of my most favorite cities!! I love San Francisco, the streets, the houses, even the Muni. (compared to living in LA the Muni rocks). and of course going downtown :)
|
Go Nor Cal.
SF is beautiful! |
oh - I live in bay and was raised in bay but i do NOT love it - i pref so cali instead. I hope to transfer to SD.
Why I dont like bay Expensive parking and difficult Traffic even at 3pm and night time expensive boutique not that many bathrooms- i sometimes afraid to go to bay cuz there are some places they dont let you use bathroom. do not drink any water or soda before. Cost of living is ridicoulus and the houses dont look good for the price. Rarely any pools Beach is COLD COLD at night time even in summer the tolls for crossing the bridges SFO airport is so confusing and hell all those hills - hard on an automatic there is more............... |
I lived in Daly City during my junior high years and I've spent time in the bay almost every summer since I was born.
I love: Chinatown (I hate my own Chinatown, but I love the one in SF) Ghirardhelli Square the Japanese Garden and planetarium at Golden Gate Park Haight Ashbury North Beach The Presidio When I was in high school, I loved the boys at Archbishop Riordan. I still have the v-neck Riordan sweater Steve gave me 10 years ago. ;) GO CRUSADERS! |
Things I forgot:
BART Fisherman's Wharf Pac Bell Park $2 wednesdays for A's games. |
Yeah... my kinda thread.
Although I will agree with the insane rent prices, you probably get paid higher in certain jobs in the bay. My favs: Gap Headquarters (my dream job) Pier 39 Concerts in the Park Union Square Cheesecake Factory (yeah I know there is one in Sacto but gotta go with the SF one.) Saucilito The Discovery Museum :) The Weather... I escape Sacto on hot weekends and stay at my parents on occasion The club scene And when it existed: FAO Swartz. That was the coolest Toy Store EVAH! |
At first I thought you were talking about the department store....
Why I love the bay: *Pier 39 *Cable cars *Saucilito *Golden Gate National Recreation Area *Union Square with all the shops I wish I could shop in! |

Tales of the City
In the City:
Riding my bike all the way from Fort Funston to the Presidio along the beach. Dim Sum, and GOOD pot stickers Lumpia at the 24 hour Serra Bowl in Daly City Cable Cars Downtown Macy's with the amazing shoe department Being able to get everything I need in my neighborhood (produce market, bakery, bagelry, butcher, coffee roaster, bike shop, pet store, hair salon, wine store, cheese shop, florist, and they are all neighborhood owners, no corporations) Eating my way around the world by going up and down the block (Japan, China, Ethiopia, Thailand, Burma, India/Pakistan, Greece, Mexico, Spain, Italy and so on) All the fun little neighborhoods (ChinaTown, JapanTown, Northbeach, SOMA, Portero Hill, Noe Valley, Inner/Outer Sunset, West Portal, SeaCliff, The Marina etc) The Castro on Halloween!!! The Zoo, Planetarium, Randall Jr. Museum and Steinhart Aquarium Fun architecture Crazy little corner neighborhood bars and pubs Amazing view from my house (Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands, and over to the East Bay) Really charismatic, nonthreating, and entertaining street people (sock puppets in a cardboard box, Jerry Garcia shrines, people walking around with snakes or birds on their shoulders, accordian players, etc) Concerts in Stern Grove Opera, Symphony & Ballet The Palace of the Legion of Honor (lots of original Rodins and Degas) PollyAnn's icecream on Noriega off of Sunset. They serve green tea, my favorite. Outside the city: Regattas and sailing on the bay, going to Sausalito/Belvedere to the Yacht Club and being on the water. Going to pick apples and weekending on the Russian River. Driving down to Santa Cruz & Monterey. Wine tasting in Sonoma and Napa. The Bancroft Library at Berkeley Egyptian Museum (run by the Rosicrucians) in San Jose. I'll be home on Saturday, can't wait to see my friends and family! :D |
