Any hikers here?

The trip I went in May/June really sparked an interest in hiking in me. Part of my joining a gym is so I can hike more strenuous trails (anyone else notice that there are easy trails, hard trails but not much that really falls in betwee).

My dream would be to hike Half Dome at Yosemite... hopefully one day I'll get to (I looooooved California and Yosemite especially). I'd also like to hike rim to rim at the Grand Canyon (have I mentioned how awesome the Grand Canyon is??)and if I can get over my fear of heights, the Angel's Landing hike at Zion National Park (Zion is the most beautiful place in the world).

Has anyone done any of these hikes?

(Wow, this entry turned into praise for American National Parks. :) )

I've never been to the places you have named but I love hiking. I enjoy just wandering around with my GPS and discovering cool places in the middle of nowhere.

Have you ever considered Geocaching ? I've talked to some people who do it and it's supposedly lots of fun.

Yup go all the time...

Just me, my Camelbak, and my GPS. Sometimes I bring my dog or bike if they beg me enough. ;)

Are you a geocacher?

Not yet - once I get a GPS, I'd love to start. It's supposedly really popular around here (SW Ontario).

It's a pretty neat hobby, combines the outdoors & technology rather well. It took me awhile to adjust to the GPS, I was used to doing land navigation with a map, compass, and pencil, LOL.

When I'm home my mom likes to take me hiking with her. When we go visit in upstate New York, she LOVES hiking on those mountains. They're so beautiful when you get to the top too... I haven't been hiking in a while though :/

I go hiking all the time... love just getting out into nature and forgetting all about the depressing urban enviroment.

Since your in S. Ontario I'd recommend hitting things like the Bruce Trail (sure it's got lots of tourists and crap, but only in the sections by roads), Niagara Escarpment, or anywhere on the Bruce Pennisula (got some cool caves too). However if you ever get the chance E. Ontario or Algonquin Park have a lot of great trails through some rugged terrain...

One day I'll get myself a GPS, but for now it's just a map and compass...

I'll definately have to get up to the Bruce Pennisula one more time this summer (I went for Canada day).... it's soo beautiful up there. I haven't checked out the trails, but I'll make an effort too.

People who navigate on a regular basis with a compass and map definately earn my respect. While I can do it, it's definately not my favourite activity - nor is it easy!

I am a hiker. Yes, hiking and national parks really are tied together. So far, I have hiked at Teddy Roosevelt NP in ND and Yellowstone in WY (also counts the Alps, Switzerland).
Pretty soon will head towards Smokey Mtn, Yosemite, and Uluru NP/Ayers Rock in Australia.

Glad to meet some GCs hikers! :D

I love to hike!!
I have not done Yosemite because it is really crowded but I have done part of the Rim trail in The Grand Canyon and I LOVE Zion. There are also some other extreme beautifuls hikes at other state parks near Zion. I can't remember the names but that area is so beautiful and has lot of wonderful hiking opportunities.

I like to do little day trips and they are VERY plentifull in my area. We're going to Zion this weekend. I'm sure it will be beautiful but it will also be frigging HOT there. Looking forward to it but I have to make sure and bring lots of water.

If you don't mind the drive, Glacier NP beats the hell out of most of the other places IMO.
