Best Pledge memory
Whats your best pledge memory. Either from when you were on line or when making another line?

Not a "pledge" memory, per se, but, my fondest memories are for when I was on the "other" side of the Ritual, and watching the wonder in the eyes of the new members going through, seeing something so wonderful for the first time. I'll never, ever forget that....

A memory from the 60's when things were a bit more formal in many ways.
My memory is of the nightly dinner at the chapter house when all of the brothers were dressed in jacket and tie, and stood at our seats until the Chapter President or Pledge President escorted our very elegant house mother to her seat at the head of the table. "Mom" taught us much about etiquette and formal table manners which served us well as we entered our adult lives and careers. (That's probably how most of us learned with fork to use -- think about it) The parties and pranks were fun, but to me, this exercise in civility and gentlemanly behavior really made a most lasting impression. And, after dinner, singing a few of the songs of the fraternity around the table. It sounds a little trite in this day and age, but really helped build the brotherhood. Fraternally, DeltAlum |
i have so many fabulous memories from pledging, as to how i got my nickname, fundraising stories, activities storis...but i think by far, my favorite is the rice krispie treat story...*sits everyone in a circle* it's storytime!
two of my pledge sisters adn i were in charge of making rice krispie treats for a campus-wide sale we were having to raise money for the pledge class. now, i'm a VERY good cook...when it's complicated. but give me a create-a-meal or something easy like brownies adn i screw it all up. so here we are, jen, juli and i making these rice krispie treats. jen had just gotten done melting the butter and marshmallows and was pouring it into the cereal so we could mix it. well, i decided that using our hands would be easier than mixing it with a spoon or something...less clumpy. WRONG! i stuck both my hands in the mix and immediately got STUCK in the batter! so i'm up to my arms in rice krispie treats. juli was on the floor laughing at me and jen was just flipping out because we were on a deadline. so juli decides to get the stick of butter and grease up my hands and arms so i could slide them out. she did that, and i started mixing the treats with my arms and hands greased up with butter. it was definately the most fun i had doing something with my pledge sisters. nupe, i TOTALLY hear you on the smiling thing. i was always the pledge class clown...the joker. so i was always the one smiling and getting the rest of us in trouble. granted, it was a dumb-ass thing to do, but i have sympathy now for my pledge ladies who smile and joke around. one ended up being my little...must run in the family! etienne sigma alpha iota ------------------ "red is the color of music and has been since the very earliest of times. the caps of faeries and musicians are well-nigh always red."~*~w.b.yeats "I think that happiness is when you can let yourself feel every emotion you want at any time instead of being a lying little fuck." - Tori Amos |
AHH! How about all the trouble I got my pledge class into! Sneaking in delivery boys on nights we were supposed to be alone, messing up times we were supposed to all be together...causing chaos...and of course, going off into tangents during pledge class that would keep us there until midnight!

Now while I know that no one will be stupid enough to put info on this uncontrolled site, I just wanted to alert folks that "Descretion is always the key" you never know who is looking at what, so think about what you say before you go and land yourself, or your chapter in some deep s%^&t. I did want to however share an observation.
Is it just me or did everyone have one knuckle head who always wanted to smile or laugh about s*&^t. Whether that be during your ceremony or at an other time. And didn't you always want to go to them and say "look, the more you laugh the worse it gets for all of us, so shut the hell up." NO matter how much the bras would tell him to stop smiling, his a$$ just kept on doing it. There are of course ways to whipe that smile off of thier faces, at least that's what I have heard from others. "#4 what the f%^& is so GD funny?" MN |
Dissapearing. I will dissapeared on campus and the brothers wouldn't be able to find me. Of course I always say I was at the lab. Anybody else has story in avoiding members?
|
I'm not quite sure why you would want to avoid members, but my best memory was during pre-I week, before initiation. It was basically a live-in week, but it wasn't required. I had a great time at the house, and going out and doing things with brothers for the whole week. I still spend a lot of time with brothers, but pre-I week was different.

One of my best 'pledge' memories, I spent a lot of time with one of my sisters, Catherine. She was great, and I often times miss her. We were getting ready for a 80's bash at her appartment with her roommate. We had more fun getting ready than we did at the actual party! We had gone shopping at the Salvation Army and got tons of great stuff. I got a pair of spike heals black and white with polka dot bows on them, white fishnet tights and white socks with lace, a white mini skirt with black polka dots, a black body suit, a long black and gold necklace, a zibra print bangle bracelet, earings that had 2 balls on them a black one and a white one, and a black scrunchy with white polka dots. We were decked out with our side pony tails teased up to perfection and those big puff ball bangs. We put colored mascara in our hair to make different colored streaks. Oh what a night!

Just rushing and hanging out with all the older "cooler" in the know college kids. Having them show me around and feeling like I was a part of something for the first time in a long time. Having a goal, wanting to get initiated.
