Please explain this to me

1. What exactly is the tier system?

2. How does it work?

3. Who ranks the sororities/fraternities to put them into tiers?

4. How do you know where your particular organization stands?

5. How can you find out about the tier system at your school? I ask this one b/c I had never heard about this going to school in Long Beach, CA so being on GC was the first time I'd heard of the tier system.

6. Out of curiosity, how many NPC & IFC's do you have at your campus?
*At LB, there are 7 sororities & 8 fraternities.

7. Is this bigger in the South?

8. Can your organization move up or down? How does that happen?

If there is a thread about this already, please feel free to re-direct me. I really am curious to know about this.

Also, feel free to PM me if this is something you're not comfortable posting for everyone to see. Thanks!

When I was in school, we weren't supposed to discuss the tier system. It's really secret.

I hear it's like the Machine. Or the Skull & Bones. Or the H&A -- nobody knows who's a member . . .

You know how people can fight for hours and hours about what band is the best?

The tier system is almost as pointless as that. It's nothing "real" or endorsed by anyone, it's just talking about what groups are the most popular. Basically don't worry about it.

Yes. If you don't know what it is, you're not in...or so I hear.

O.K. It sounds bizarre but it never hurts to ask.
