Playboy sues Fraternity
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A party that got out of hand is now at the center of a legal battle. Playboy is suing a UCF fraternity. They say Kappa Alpha Psi had no right to use the company's logo and name when promoting a party that the police had to break up.

I went to UCF, still live in the East Orlando area, and I still regularly keep up with UCF Greek gossip through my friends who haven't graduated yet and I never heard about this. I emailed a few sisters the story and they hadn't heard about it either. So, how Playboy has suffered "serious and substantial injury" to its reputation is beyond me. How could one fraternity in Orlando could cause great injury to a HUGE National magazine? It's all about the benjamins.

Playboy defending its "integrity"?
Sounds like something that could only happen on opposite day. |
lol I wasn't aware that playboy had a "good" image to uphold.

I also go to UCF. I hear about pretty much everything that goes on here. I've been here all summer taking classes and working, and I haven't heard anything about this at all!

Don't forget though, that the worlds of NPC/IFC and NPHC are worlds apart at UCF. The two groups get along, but don't socialize with one another unless it's homecoming or Greek Week. Our NPHC groups are outstanding, but tend to keep to themselves and away from NPC/IFC, which is probably why you NPC ladies in Orlando didn't hear anything. Also, the NPHC at UCF is much better at being discrete than NPC/IFC are. I envy them that-- they are great at keeping negativity away from outsiders' ears.

Thanks Rudey :) At our school, they are active on the NPHC council, not the unversity IFC. I understand they are NIC, too, and thanks again for clarifying.
My only point was that as an NPHC at UCF though, they're a little better at spreading positive PR and keeping the negative under wraps. Which is why no one local has really heard anything. I hope they'll be able to settle this one amicably with Hef! |
Very true, adpiucf! :)

There is also a thread on this in Risk Management, including the notification from the fraternity Nationals to immediately stop the use of the Playboy name and logo.
