What makes your GLO so special???

What is it about your particular GLO that sets it apart? What makes it so special? What was it about your particular chapter that grabbed at you & made you go there instead of the others on your campus?
This is all just out of curiousity. Feel free to be as personal or inpersonal as you like.

Gamma Theta chapter of Sigma Kappa at Long Beach State:

The ladies were more than friendly. I COB'd so when I first met them, there wasn't this atmosphere of formality. Just a bunch of gals eating pizza waiting for FRIENDS to come on. Two of the girls got into an argument in front of me regarding some issue while the others tried to diffuse the situation. A gal came in later upset b/c she was failing a class & was having problems with a boyfriend. All the others comforted her & talked to her. Finally, one gal in particular sat with me the entire time & just talked to me & listened to what I had to say.

I was amazed b/c they did not try to hide the fact that not all sisters get along all the time. They showed me many sides to what sisterhood is all about & I just knew right away that I had found something special. When I later learned about the history, traditions, & rituals of Sigma Kappa, I was truly honored on the day of my initiation to become part of such an awesome group of women.

The Kappa Phi Club

The Alpha Lambda chapter of the Kappa Phi Club is so special because we still possess many of the rich traditions that make us an amazing group. When my chapter went to Kora (our "regionals"), we were surprised to see that other chapters didn't really know our opening and closings songs. Another thing that makes us such a wonderful chapter is that we have only 30 sisters and yet won the most improved chapter award as well as a prestigous award only given out every other year (help me, JocelynC, I forgot what it's called).

The Alpha Beta chapter of Tri-Sigma:

The girls are not fake. They don't try to pretend and hide behind the glitz and glam. Alot of chapters on campus are all about the glamour of recruitment but don't have the sisterhood that these girls have.

They were so outgoing and friendly. They just fit. They seemed like girls I could hang out with everyday.

I saw the growth. We are very close to quota and are in the process of building a new house. I could see a new chapter starting to grow out and I wanted to be a part of it. They are a smaller chapter, but I saw that as an advantage rather than a hindurance. I could see the chapter rebuilding and I honestly wanted to be a part of it and brag about being part of the "Tightest Sisterhood" and "Most Improved Chapter" at Kent State.
:)

The Alpha Lambda chapter of the Kappa Phi Club:

I wanted to be a part of a strong group of Christ centered young women. These are those girls. On a campus where I didn't know alot of people, they were all so sweet and welcoming.

Nationally, there is so much growth in this org. I'm so proud to know that everywhere I go, I have a group of women who share my love for Christ.

The idea of an open Christian sisterhood was something I'd never heard of, so it just grabbed my attention from day one.

Hmmm...

Let me start off by the fact that I was rushed by several houses on our campus... All with very different personalities...

I knew many people from one because of my involvement in student government - in result, they were rushing me for several semesters...

I had friends in other ones as well as TKE... All were different...

I'm gonna start off with the shallow info...

Tekes on my campus had been known in the past as the cool guys with large lifted trucks with flames on the back window, the alternative musicians (one of our recently graduated alums in our chapter was one of the original members of the band Linkin Park, which was called "zero" back then, and played regularly at the TKE house), and an assortment of athletes, skaters, punkers, surfers, motocross, snowboard, and party boys... At this point, there are many who are like this, and some who aren't - making a very strong mix...

There was another fraternity on campus that I considered and was my other final choice (which I won't name) who potrayed themselves to be "cool," and don't get me wrong, I have friends currently in that house... But when those friends invited me over for rush, I felt a negative vibe come out of them as a whole... I also felt that they were trying to hard to be cool - everything from clothing to hair, they tried TOO HARD, and it showed... A good word for this would be "posers"... A little too hung up about their image as cool...

I found in TKE a bunch of cool guys, that didn't have to try hard - who were already a bunch of REAL people, who REALLY KNEW how to have fun (we're known to be a little crazy), and really carried with them a loud, enthusiastic pride...

The difference between that "other fraternity" and TKE was that TKE had the TEKE SPIRIT - passionate, enthusiastic, PROUD, LOUD, even ROWDY SPRIT that was apparent from the moment you met them... They don't bow down to anyone, and everyone else in the greek system, even if they did talk behind their backs, ultimately respected them for their staunch uprightness...

On a deeper level, not only spirit, but brotherhood in spite of not always getting along... People bantering back and forth very often, but when it came down to it, they were there for each other...

We've had people bail each other out of overnight jail, beat the crap out of people that caused trouble with the gals and/or bros, and just countless other examples of brotherhood...

Basically, cool guys, with a rowdy never die spirit and understanding of brotherhood despite differences...
What's not to like about that mix?

Plus the fact that they are a strong chapter in the largest fraternity in the world... :D Our list of prominent alumni are astounding... And most of whom were't just "paper" alums, but actually devoted time, energy, finance, and enthusiasm toward the bond... A great example of whom was our recently passed away frater, Ronald Wilson Reagan...

I've heard some good things about the TKE chapter at Long Beach. I ran into a sister at the Town Center & she's dating a LB TKE alum. He was one of the nicest & just generally awesome guys I've ever met. He had nothing but positive things to say about your chapter.

Thanks...

Thanks... I appreciate the comment ... :)

Interesting Side Note that I forgot to add : One of the other houses that was rushing me hard got so pissed that I rushed TKE, that they tried to get TKE in trouble for "dirty rushing" me...

That clearly was not the truth - Just because I knew a lot of members from that other fraternity though student government and hanging out, they automatically assumed that i'd take a bid from their house...

Just goes to show for rush - don't assume too much...

The Epsilon Gamma chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota:

They seemed like really fun, laid back girls, and a group with a focus on music really intrigued me. And, as a scared freshman wanting to be Greek, a group of 10 women I already knew (most of them anyways) seemed a lot less scary to me then one of the social sororities with 70+ sisters. :)

Also, one of the reasons I chose not to pledge an NPC sorority was that I felt, as a music major, I would not have time to devote to a sorority and still grow as a musician. SAI was just perfect because they automatically schedule around all the fine arts dept. happenings and so it worked out wonderfully in my schedule! :)

The Indiana Gamma chapter of Pi Beta Phi was special because we were all pretty close. We were slightly smaller than the other houses, but I think it allowed us to bond much tighter. We were very diverse, and it was hard to stereotype us. We have a beautiful house that is much different than the other sorority houses. It's a white brick house with pillars as opposed to red brick, etc. That, and our house is set on an arrowhead shaped piece of land. :)

The fact every DG chapter has a form of Anchorsplash and the money goes to aid the visually impaired. I think that's pretty cool.

Plus, what's better than watching cute guys do synchronized swimming?! :)

I don't know of any other GLO that traces its roots back to 1400 in Europe. I think thats pretty darn unique.

The Eta Chapter of Delta Gamma at The University of Akron is soooo near and dear to my heart for soooo many reasons.

First, we are the oldest chapter of Delta Gamma in continuous existance (March 15, 1879 - March 15, 2004 = 125 wonderful years of sisterhood)!

Secondly, the women are the most genuine people that I know. Like Jocelyn said....we are the women on campus that "don't try to pretend and hide behind the glitz and glam". We are real and when you see us, what you see is what you get.

The diversity of our chapter is amazing! We have so many types of women that come from so many different backgrounds and that makes our chapter unique.

We have strong leadership from many of our members. We have women (alum and active) that have served our chapter, our campus, and our Panhellenic with pride. We've had senators on Associated Student Government, Panhellenic Presidents and Executive Officers, Orientation Leaders, Ambassadors, Yearbook Editors, Writers, and Photographers, Officers and members of other Organizations such as ODK, Mortar Board, Order of Omega, Rho Lambda, etc.

Finally, what is sooo cool about our chapter is when you walk on campus and you can point out the many buildings, memorials, and gifts that are named for DG alumnae and/or were given to the campus by DG. It is such a beautiful thing!

The Beta Sigma chapter of ADPi is wonderful! The girls were very down to earth and tons of fun. I felt like I could just laugh with them (because that's all they seemed to do during the skit).

But the amazing thing about our chapter is our location. Its wonderful enough that ADPi was the first sorority, but to have the opportunity to be a member in Macon, where we were founded is just amazing! We were able to frequently visit Wesleyan (where we were founded) and other sites of importance to us. Just a great place to be an ADPi!!

Delta Phi Epsilon was the first and only sorority founded at a professional school, NYU. Also, we are the only NPC sorority with an eating disorders philanthropy, which is one of the biggest issues among teenage and college age women. Finally, we are steadfast in our motto, to be rather than to seem to be....we're not about just going through the motions of sorority. We live it. As John Mayer asks, "Am I living it right?" D Phi Es live it right :)
