LEXINGTON TRIAD
ALPHA TAU OMEGA KAPPA ALPHA ORDER SIGMA NU "The Lexington Triad was soon formed after the Civil War, and a common heritage has produced lasting ties of friendship among three great National Fraternities: Alpha Tau Omega, Kappa Alpha Order, and Sigma Nu." |
Delta Kappa Epsilon and Alpha Sigma Phi were founded at Yale College in 1844 and 1845 respectively. Both were originally founded as class societies at Yale; Deke was for juniors while Alpha Sig was for sophomores.
Pi Lambda Phi was founded at Yale in 1895, by that time Alpha Sigma Phi was dormant at Yale, and would not be revived until 1907. |
Delta Zeta and Phi Kappa Tau were also founded at Miami University.

Right on the other two counts. You ever see the monument in Lexington that commemorates the founding of the three? Here's an interesting story about it -- and as an ATO, you might get a kick out of it. A Sigma Nu was commissioned by someone to create this monument in Lexington to the triad. He decided on a circle divided into thirds with info on each fraternity in each third. So there was one third of the circle on top, one faced one left and the other right (I can't remember which direction was which). The bronze circle (I think it's bronze) is mounted on some kind of a stone/concrete mounting block. The Sigma Nu contacted KA Order and told them about the monument and said that he'd give them the side of the circle closest to W&L. They agreed. He contacted ATO and told them that they'd probably want the side of it that was closest to where ATO was founded -- VMI. They also agreed. That left one part of the circle left for the Sigma Nu part of the memorial -- the top :D |
Yes, a huge kick out of that story!!! I know as a Sig Nu you get a kick out of the Blackfoot/Whitefoot story ....right?
;) I knew that KA was founded at Washington Lee but left it out and just put Lexington Triad....anyway.....This semster when Maryland plays either UVA:mad: or VaTech:rolleyes: I plan on visiting the monument and other chapters. |
