The Bohemian Club?
I am doing research on owls because I am creating a Web site for a school program that has an owl as the mascot. Anyway, I ran across this:
"Probably one of the most bizarre occurrences of owl symbolism can be found at the "Bohemian Club." The Bohemian Club is a rich-man’s organization that holds a two-week "camp" in northern California every year. This strange and secretive group, which has received very little press coverage, has an owl as its central symbol. Each year, approximately 1,500 of America’s most influential CEO’s, government officials, financiers, industrialists, and media moguls gather to hear speeches, network, and share common agendas. They also perform Druid-like ceremonies before a huge stone owl, complete with robes, fire, incantations, and other rituals." Has anyone ever heard of this Bohemian Club?? |
Hm, never heard of it, but wish I was a CEO to be able to join!
:Eyes Wide Shut: anyone? Sounds a lot like The Skulls on the East Coast. |

S.F.'s exclusive clubs carry on traditions of fellowship, culture -- and discrimination by Adair Lara Chronicle Staff Writer Sunday, July 18, 2004 "On Saturday, some 2,000 CEOs and politicos and arty types arrived at the cool redwoods and lily-choked lake of the Grove, the famous Russian River playground of the powerful Bohemian Club. They say it's the place to be seen in America in July. Except, of course, you can't see them. Signs abound: No Thru Traffic. No Trespassing. Members and Guests Only. No Turn Around. Sentries scan the paths from above with binoculars, helped out by infrared sensors. And what are those important men doing out there for 17 days behind that elaborate security? Slipping into frocks and putting on pageants. The Bohemian Club, a beguiling mix of ultra-power hangout and high school play, is one of several elite private clubs in San Francisco, curious islands of conservatism amid a forest of Kerry for President signs." --and this-- "Those who are clubbable find themselves strolling past faces any American would recognize. "Never mind just plain CEOs and presidents," Hoffman said, "they have president presidents" -- such as former President George H.W. Bush, who has brought his sons." SF Gate - Members only |

Yes...
I actually have heard of this...
I know that because it was rumored that our recently deceased fraters in TKE (brother), Ronald Reagan, as well as numerous other prominent TKE alumni were RUMORED to have been members... It's REALLY shady actually... Stories of cult-like (okay, some fraternity rituals can look cult-like, but not to this extent), sacraficial rituals, murders, other creepy activities, and other stuff come out of that... Some rumors and sources read as follows: "Not merely drunkenness, unbounded use of alcohol and drugs with vague homosexual tones (confirmed by our sources) but reported activities much more serious - kidnapping, rape, pedophilia, sodomy, ritual murder. Investigation is blocked under the 1947 National Security Act. (!) And like the Omaha child abuse case, includes illegal detention of children." I also hear they have secret passages, different rooms, and other sorts of things... Now that's scary... |
KEWEL, so they are Real People with Biggy Bucks!
That is the difference, Bigggy Bucks. It is the true Roll of society, let the Biggys do it and the rest of us eat crumbs. I would love to run for President, but Alas, no bucks! :( |

These kind of things always fascinate me. Here are a few more stories:

I've heard of it. It just sounds like clubs I know of in Philadelphia (that I'm sure exist in other cities) except on a national scale. The club in Philadelphia I know wants its members to have at least some musical talent, but it's pretty much guys who are rich and/or went to the Ivies together. And like to sing, drink, and dress up in drag (one night a year).
I dated a guy who was in one of these in Phila - they gave choral concerts, did a drag show for family and friends, and had a neat little "hidden" clubhouse (in a nice colonial townhouse) where they had a bar, dining room and theater. The Bohemian Grove is this sort of thing on a national scale. Oo, I get to hang out and drink and totally relax with Henry Kissinger or Dick Cheney for a few days without women around to nag us, with no pagers, no assistants/secretaries, none of the general public around to be annoying. When I first heard about this years ago, I thought it was awful. Now I kind of get it a little more (even though I'm female and therefore banned). I'm more annoyed by country clubs, where business gets done on a regular basis and colleagues can take clients but I can't take clients unless my husband is a member. |
