Encarta entry for fraternities and sororities

http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_...ororities.html

The focus on the negatives is a little grim.

I didn't see it focusing on the negatives. They were mentioned and explained , but there were an equal amount of positives in the entry, commenting on how members felt more satisfied about their collegiate experiences, philanthropy, etc.

Social issues focus on struggles that have affected the people or organizations.

It seemed a little outdated and didn't explain philanthropies for social greeks, but otherwise I think it was fine.

Quote:

Today, only a small percent of college students are members of social fraternities and sororities. About 5 percent of all college students belong to social Greek-letter societies. At four-year colleges, about 7 percent are members. The number of members varies from campus to campus. Some campuses don’t have any, while at others more than half the students are members.
Is greek membership really that small? I guess it makes sense if you include students at schools where there are no greeks.

Isn't that a sigma, not an epsilon?

So, it can be given a B + or an A -.

But over all, it is pretty well written to give an over all explanation about Greek Organizations.

A lot of People do not know about all of the Charity events that are done by Greeks and should be shown a little more.

Example, My Chapter does 1 each Semester and of course The Great North American Food Drive, the largest in the Country. Cannot speak of Canada as not sure how they fair against other Food Drives.

Actually, their % is about right. Small isnt it compared to what one might think from GC!

I do wish that they had posted the right name of The Sammys though!

Must have been a non Greek!:(

That's an average including schools where there aren't Greeks. That should have been specified.

What is this Encarta thing? It seems really stupid if this is a typical entry...

It's Microsoft's Encyclopedia.
