Popped Collar Polos, Cargos Shorts, Leather Flip-Flops and other Trends of the day

SOI work at the International Spy Museum (its not that glamorous) in the Gift Shop (It Sucks!) and when Im not ringing people up I just watch people from all over the country/world walk through. I see tons of people they start to look the same because everone is wearing the same thing. For example the title of this thread. Popped Collar Polos, Cargo Shorts. and Leather Thonged Sandals). The trucker hat has become so omnipresent (sp) that the museum has one with "SPY" on it. My question where do these trends come from? The media? Or some average joe? I wonder If I started wearing my clothes inside out would it catch on...oops thats been done before.

Edited to add that this too is my uniform during the summer, minus the popped collar of course.

Famous people. The trucker hat came from Ashton Kutcher i believe. But cargo shorts/pants are just cool. I think theyll be around for a while...

It's so nice to be past the "trendy" phase.

Anyone still wearing a trucker hat needs to have that thing ripped off their head. The trend is over. Ashton doesn't even wear them anymore.

Popped collars bother me so much!

I forget the original saying that was associated with them, but it had something to do with "I'm rich and others are not" even though we're all capable of leaving our collars up.

I think Pharell of the Neptunes might have worn it before Ashton.

LOL at poppped collars....

When pro athletes make the sign of "popping a collar", they don't literally mean it!

I dont care who wore the trucker hat first. If youre a part of a trend that becomes so commonplace that its mocked, its time to realize that the trend is indeed over and move on.

I think the trendiest peeps are the ones who have moved on to bigger and better and can RECOGNIZE when something has gotten too mainstream and is no longer trendy.

Popped collars were never out here. ;)

That's not fair. I'm jealous now!

At the Sigma Nu national convention last week, I did observe some of my undergrad brothers sporting the "popped collar" look.

But they were few and far between.

Here in Oklahoma, as far as I know, that's a look that never was.

Is this anything Like Nehru??

New lingo!

GeekyPenguin 07-26-2004 05:30 PM

It's nothing like Nehru. It's taking a collar of a regular polo shirt and not folding it down, but leaving it up.

I have a picture of my grandpa from the early 60s at his club with a popped collar, it's kind of funny.

My roomies and I were watching "Grease" . . . one of them said, "Look, Rizzo's got the collar popped!"

Just more proof that the late 50s/early 60s = the 80s = right now. :(

I like the way Rizzo half-pops during the song "There are worse things I could do." it's a nice touch.
