This is like Barry Sanders to the extreme...what do you all think? Such a huge surprise. What the hell is he thinking?

What's the big deal? If the man has found something else he'd rather do, why keep him from that??

ZTAMich 07-25-2004 11:31 PM

He'll be missed. I always enjoyed him & The Dolphins :)

But good for him. You gotta do what you want in life and love what you do too!

I don't know...it just seems kind of sudden, right before training camp and all that. I just hate to see a guy give it up in the prime of his career.

But you're right, if he's found something else he'd rather do, more power to him. No sense in playing football if it doesn't mean that much.

That'll really hurt miami's year, but you've got to do what makes you happy. I hope he's happy with the decision he's made

Kevin 07-26-2004 09:32 AM

There are rumors that his use of drugs had a lot to do with his decision.

TheEpitome1920 07-26-2004 09:46 AM

He's not the first person to smoke weed. Is that really enough to make him retire??

Apparently it's difficult to get a drug habit and playing in the NFL to work together. Sometimes you just have to go with what your priorities are.

My other theory is that he's heard that there is about to be a vacancy in the Head Coach position at his alma mater.

madmax 07-26-2004 02:02 PM

He got tired of the other players questioning his sexual orientation.

NickLc24 07-26-2004 02:18 PM

 He has a son and daughter.

So does Rosie O'donnell and Rock Hudson. What does that prove?

I think he's referring to that joke article people put on the net about him coming out of the closet.

Here's my theory. He knew that he would fail the drug test, so he announced his retirement. He plans on "unretiring" in a year when he can pass.

Nah, he failed one a couple years ago too - he admitted to continuing use during the time, but he was taking a 'cleansing agent' during testing periods . . . NFL drug standards are a f-ing joke, for serious.

He's been diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder, depression, being a whiner, smoking weed prolificly, and partying more than average (even for a young NFL star) . . . I think he just flaked, figured he has more than enough money to do whatever he wants, he doesn't need to get plowed under Iron Dave and the rest of the NFL's hierarchy and structure. So he dipped.

Weird guy.

He's always been one of those Zen people. And it's not because he's done too much acid either. He's always been like this. Basically, he said fuck all you-I'm getting high for the rest of my life. I think he hangs with Lenny Kravitz way too much.
