Hi there! I will be going to UT Chat this fall and am curious about sororities there. I have tried to look at their website but most are not working or provide little info. Anyone who could tell me anything about them, that would be great!
They are
Omega Phi Alpha
Chi Omega
Sigma Kappa
Alpha Delta Pi
Sigma Alpha Iota

Specifically, I'd like to know how big each of these groups is, their GPA and any honors they've recieved. I think I want to join a medium sized chapter with a small or medium size pledge class because I don't want to get lost in the shuffle. If you know the reputation of these groups, that would be cool too. I definitely don't want to join a group that has been on probation or is close to closing or anything like that. Thanks a bunch!!!!!

Oooooh!! I am editing this because I forgot to say I was accepted to Georgia State University and University of Texas and may change my mind, so any info about those would be cool too!

Georgia State has AOPi, DZ, Phi Mu, Alpha Xi Delta and ZTA. I have heard that one of those groups is really struggling, but once again, the websites are not that great and a few don't even have one.

University of Texas has AXO, ADPi, AEPhi, Alpha Phi, Alpha Xi Delta, Chi Omega, Tri-Delta, DG, Theta, KD,KKG, Pi Beta Phi, Sigma Delta Tau, and ZTA.

Do you think I should consider going to Texas b/c they have more groups and my chances of getting to join would be better?

Quite honestly I doubt anyone will give you any negative info on these groups. As for the awards, honors, and size of the groups, that is what Recruitment is for. You'll have anywhere from 3 days to a week to meet each sorority and see which one you fit in best with. Your personal impressions are more important than those of others. If a sorority is full of troublemakers, you'll be able to see it for yourself.

What I can tell you is that Chi Omega, Sigma Kappa, and Alpha Delta Pi are all NPC sororities (traditionally seen as "social"), while Sigma Alpha Iota is a sorority with a musical interest, and Omega Phi Alpha is a service sorority that concentrates on philanthropy. If you were interested in say, both music and social, you could potentially join one of the NPCs and SAI. The only restriction (that I know of!) is that you cannot join 2 NPC sororities.

I would say definitely consider Texas, but not because your chances of getting into a sorority are better (I'm from a UT family!), but b/c it's a great school.

UT recruitment is pretty competitive & I believe their recruitment registration deadline has passed. I could be wrong, but if you haven't already registered at UT, and had all your recs sent in, your chances of getting in may be pretty limited.... Call their panhellenic office to find out for sure.

I'd say your choices at any of the schools listed are good...you have great national orgs to choose from anyway you slice it.

DO NOT base your educational choice on what school has more sororities. Go to the best school that you can. The purpose of college is to get an education. Being in a sorority is a side thing.

Ummm...shouldn't you be basing your choice on where to go to college more on the academic value of each school than on how many sororities the place has? The primary purpose of college, after all, is to earn a degree...

"More sororities=better chances at pledging" doesn't apply at UT. It's one of the most difficult rushes in the country; if I were worried about getting a bid, I'd go to a smaller school.

please please don't chose a college on sorority life .... you will end up missing out on where you really want to go in the first place if you cahnge your mind now ... esp. in july
