Poor Chickens
NEW YORK (Reuters) - An animal rights group has released a videotape showing slaughterhouse workers with a KFC Corp. supplier jumping on live chickens and slamming them into walls, apparently for fun.

Although I realize that chickens are just chickens & they were going to be killed anyway I still find it absolutely appalling to know that they were treated in such an inhumane way. It really makes me sick to my stomach.

Very appalling indeed!

chickens is pillows with buffalo wings?

Aww. Nomore KFC.

What makes people do things like that to animals? Even if they are going to be killed that doesn't mean you can swing them around or throw them up against walls. They showed video footage on GMA and I had to turn the channel.
No more KFC for me. |

KFC announced that they would cut ties w/ the company if behavior like this wasn't stopped. How they'll curb this behavior and how they'll determine if it stopped, I don't know. Still, I, too, will be boycotting KFC for awhile.
Stories like this show that there is need for reform in the meat industry. I'd be willing to bet 1) At least half the workers were illegal immigrants, 2) None of those guys was being paid more than $6 or $7 per hour and 3) At least 75% never finished high school. Granted, they take these jobs because most people wouldn't/couldn't do it. But even still, there needs to be stricter enforcement of current standards/laws and perhaps even higher standards. I once read that if slaughterhouses/meat packing plants were to consistently follow OSHA standards and pay their workers a fair living wage (meaning they could actually support their families on their income), we'd only pay around 35 cents more for a Big Mac. I think it's a fair deal. |
