Family Members and Intelligence

Do you have a sibling or parent that is waaaaaaaay smarter or dumber than the rest of your family? Are you the smartest or dumbest one? lol

My uncle's wife, aka my aunt, thinks she is hot shit because she's the only one in the whole family who has gone to college and gotten a degree. Her daughter (the cooler one) is actually very very smart, but doesn't act like it. I can't wait to take her to the strip club and lower her intelligence level tho!

I blew my younger brothers away on the IQ test.

But they were pretty far above average as well.

My whole family is of above-average intelligence. Both parents have professional degrees (mom=M.A. in French Lit, Dad = J.D.)

I come from good stock:D

There are 9 varieties of intelligence.
My mother may not have some of them but oh boy is she smart in others- she really knows how to manipulate us kids to get what she wants- and the sad part is that we manipulate her to get what we want and she knows it so she works it to her advantage.

The family that schemes against each other stays together. :D

edit: family is probably above-average in IQ.
mom: MSW
dad: D.O.
oldest sis: BS Comp E, 2 credits shy of masters degree in textile restoration

My sister, oldest brother, and myself are average. My youngest brother is the smartest. My mom is somewhere between us. My middle brother is the DUMBEST! I don't know where my dad is on this spectrum.

We have a lot of drama coming from the dumbest member trying to tell everyone what to do and how to live our lives. He's really screwed up his life doing really dumb things, but he think he knows it all.

One of my biggest fears is having a child that is retarded....or a genious! I don't think I will have the patience for a slow child. Or worse, I don't think a really bright child will have the patience for me.

Two words:

Boarding School

My aunt is always bragging how smart her kids are. One of them just graduated from college and is starting law school in the fall. She made a huge big deal about his graduation and sent out "friendly reminders" to us to "not forget" to acknowledge his graduation. I got really pissed because I am the first one in my family to graduate this spring with a Master's and she never acknowledged this. Everyone else in my family and even friends I haven't seen in like, 10 years, sent me cards. She sent/said NADA!!!!!! My mom was a teacher and went to conferences often with teachers from her kids schools. They used to say my aunt did the homework for her kids. Now that I am older I can choose when I want to spend time with them Thank God!!!!

Same with mine. :D

My dad is a genius and a graduate of Iowa Law. I'm a handfull of points shy but kinda flaky by my own admission. I'd guesstimate that my mom is slightly above average and my brother is bringing up the middle. Somehow my family still functions with Mom as the brains of the operation.

LOL, 2.5 words: don't reproduce. ;)

Just kidding, Dionysus. I actually think you'd have cool kids, as much as kids can be cool.

My cousin was really smart as a child. He was in fourth grade and got over 1400 on the SATS. He is in college and is just normal smart now.

Most of my family members are smart and well-educated. There are doctors, lawyers, and Ph.Ds galore.

that's the worst kind of smart. i hate people like this and nyc seems to be filled with them.

XOMichelle 07-19-2004 03:37 PM

While it takes a bit of intelligence to go get a higher degree (or at least I'd like to think so!!!), I feel like getting a JD or an MD or PhD has more to do with how you were brought up, and not how smart you are. I know people with no degrees that are very very smart, and can do a lot more stuff than I can, even if I can wow people with a diploma.

winneythepooh7 07-19-2004 03:40 PM

That's so true XOMichelle. Some people are just not "school people" and that is fine. I know people who are in everything from construction to food service who are brilliant. If I didn't need it to advance in my field and grow professionally, I probably wouldn't have gotten an MSW cuz I hate school!
