STILL the largest fraternity in the world...
This guy on the Greek Life Forum provided fairly current statistics (May 17th, 2004) on the National Fraternities listed on a website with their respective executives...
It is also provided by the following website by Ariesrising (reportedly updated to July 2004 - NOW): http://www3.telus.net/ariesrising/numbers.html The poster on the Greek Life forum broke it down... I know one thing - we knew we were the largest fraternity in the world CHAPTER wise... Now it looks to be in all aspects... I know the SAE's on our campus talked about their initiates number, and we talk about our chapters... Well looks like we have both now :D :D :D Here's the post from the guy on the greek life forum: ________________________________\ Here are two separate lists. The first list is of fraternities with more than 100 chapters. (I did not include colonies or affiliates) The second list is fraternities with more than 100,000 total initiates. Please do not shoot the massager here. I got the following statistics from the Fraternities Executives Association's web site. Last updated on Monday, May 17, 2004. http://www.fea-inc.org/fratern.htm My understanding is that each fraternity's information is provided by the fraternity. So how up to date the statistics may be is depended on each fraternity. FYI: From the information provided, you can not divide the total number of initiates by number of chapters to get an average chapter size. The number you would get would be the total number of initiates per chapter. To get the historical average chapter size you would then need to divide that number by the total cumulative number of years for all active chapters. To find the current average chapter size, you would need to know the number of current active members divided by the current number of chapters. The web site does not provide this information. For example. Fraternity ABC is listed with two chapters and 120 initiates. Chapter A has had 60 members for 3 years while Chapter B has had 60 members for 2 years. If you were to divide 120 by 2 you would come up with 60. But the accurate chapter average would be 24. How would you get there is to divide 120 (total initiates) by 5 (each active year of each chapter - 3 for Chapter A and 2 for Chapter B.) Thus 120/5 = 24. Perhaps you can you tell I'm a statistics nerd. Fraternities with 100 plus chapters 243 Tau Kappa Epsilon 238 Sigma Phi Epsilon 218 Sigma Chi 208 Pi Kappa Alpha 207 Sigma Alpha Epsilon 194 Kappa Sigma 190 Lambda Chi Alpha 185 Sigma Nu 167 Phi Delta Theta 140 Alpha Tau Omega 134 Theta Chi 130 Kappa Alpha Order 129 Beta Theta Pi 119 Pi Kappa Phi 117 Delta Chi 113 Phi Gamma Delta 112 Delta Tau Delta 107 Sigma Pi 102 Delta Sigma Phi Fraternities with 100,000 plus initiates 280,544 Tau Kappa Epsilon 270,867 Sigma Alpha Epsilon 263,975 Sigma Chi 245,904 Sigma Phi Epsilon 240,379 Lambda Chi Alpha 219,000 Kappa Sigma 217,400 Phi Delta Theta 215,000 Pi Kappa Alpha 206,653 Sigma Nu 185,000 Alpha Tau Omega 182,284 Kappa Alpha Order 168,000 Beta Theta Pi 153,145 Theta Chi 148,100 Phi Gamma Delta 144,167 Delta Tau Delta 117,199 Delta Upsilon 115,000 Phi Sigma Kappa 110,000 Zeta Beta Tau 107,000 Delta Sigma Phi 104,000 Phi Kappa Psi _______________________________________ GO T K E !!! |
BY THE WAY...
Largest Fraternity in the WORLD - and still we have a crappy International Headquarter WEBSITE... SOMEONE PLEASE FIX THAT FRIGGIN CONDEMNED AND FORSAKEN WEBSITE!!!
GO BEACH!!! |
yes, yes, yes
yes, we have a crappy website
yes, we have the most active chapters yes, we have the most inactive chapters. But we existed for over twenty years with poor leadership and a piss-poor Grand Council. Finally, changes are coming about. Slowly. And some of us who stuck it through, like me, have been heavily criticized and condemned. But, be that as it may, I am still here and others have jumped ship or gone to never-never land. We are turning it around. But you chapters out there with less than 40 men, you chapters with no adviser, no board....if I had it my way, you'd be gone. History...you are a drag to all of us. Take heed, times are a changin' even in TKE and we worked very hard to reach #1 and a couple are trying to catch us. They won't but some of us have caught hell for years for trying to excel. Be good or be gone! |
most living?
Wonder who has the most living initiates? I would guess it is us,
too, as we got a much later start than most. But, we gotta hand it to Sig Ep and Pike, and even though we are yet the largest, these are two damned good outfits who have done us all proud -- themselves. They are damned worthy competitors, I would like to feel friends and comrades. And so are a goodly number of others. But, I am proud TKE is #1 in size...we still have lots of room for improvement. But I salute Sig Ep and Pike for having done a damn good job themselves these past twenty years. And we need not say congrats to SAE, Beta, et al., they speak for themselves...well, too. The list is legion.... |
Thank you...
And most of us are proud there are those like you Frater Conard that stuck by to see us through that dark time you tell us about...
We should all hold our heads up high knowing there are fiesty people like you with the Teke Spirit... From what I recall from a certain important speech by Frater McCauley - "Interwoven about the sentiments of our name and our pin, and ingrained in the fiber of every member is the Teke spirit - a spirit typical of our fraternity - a spirit that does not shrink from sacrifice, that knows no defeat; a spirit indomitable." GO BEACH!!! |
A question
Last year when this came up it was learned that TKE was largest, if you count active chapters and colonies.
Is TKE still using this new math to count chapters and claim the title? |
new math?
What is this new math? (I got a D in math)
TKE has the most active chapters of the NIC American fraternities TKE has the most colonies/affiliates TKE has the most interest groups TKE has the most total initiates TKE has the most living initiates TKE has the most inactive chapters What is this new math? Really, we got lots better things to do.... |
whats this about you want to see chapters with less then 40 men shut down?? That would close down about half the chapters across the country. And its not the numbers that make a great chapter. You can still have a good contribution to your school and your community if you don't have numbers. I also think thats what makes TKE such a great fraternity is the diversity of small and big chapters.

Small chapter?
Quote:
30 man chapter - 20% active in student govt. = 6 people 80 man chapter - 20% = 16 people 30 man chapter - $200 dues = $6000 party 80 man chapter - $100 dues = $8000 party or 80 man chapter - $200 dues = $4000 party (Fri. night) + $6000 party (Sat. night) + $6000 party/dinner Sun. Every chapter smaller than the average size (about 40) hurts TKE everywhere. Don't shut 'em down - give 'em help, give 'em a good advisor, and give 'em a deadline. |
zzzzzzzzzzzzz
check my latest on Greek Chat on who is largest. etc.
Kappa Sig, Pike, Sig Ep all having banner years. TKE installing about 15 this year including revivals but we are not beating our chest over it. We are largest without even counting colonies. We are about to reactivate a dozen or more a year. We do have a shitty website and apparently no one in HQ gives a rat's ass about it. It is embarrassing, and all we can do is complain, and continue to complain. We still have a lot of drones runnin' the club...excluding Kevin. Figures put out vary greatly, but in the final analysis, we got all the hay down we can put up. Yes, we are the largest in terms of chapters and initiates. But there's a lot more to do. Let us get busy. now...please |
