Why are there so many awards shows? There's day time, night time, late night, wee morning hours..geesh.

Nevertheless, glad to see Chris Rock and David Chappelle, Mos Def on the lists.

Because in the case of the EMMY's, if you put all of those in one show, it would last about three weeks.

I get a kick out of the "new" ones, though. Can't get along with just the EMMY's, Oscars, Grammys and Tonys anymore.

Gotta have the ESPY's, MTV's, People's Choice and who knows what else!

Not necessarily true. All of the awards don't have to be presented on air. They can be mailed to your house with a congrats note, lol.

Best Actor will go to John Ritter.

You can't beat a dead man.

But then you wouldn't have the craziness of red carpet, good/bad fashion, and embarassing acceptance speeches. ;)

I'm glad Angels in Amercia, Sex and the City, and Will and Grace got a good number of nominations.

Some of them are given out off the air even now.

I'm a former NATAS (TV Academy) member and sat on committees for regional EMMY presentations and can tell you that everybody and his/her dog lobbies for new categories, and it is really tough to keep the presentation shows a reasonable length.

While some people take it way to seriously, it is a really nice affirmation of your hard work to get to walk up and accept in front of your peers, etc.

It's too bad "Friends" didn't get a nod for Best Comedy :( They were truly back to form last year.

I was in TV Production for about 35 years. But the real answer is that I paid my dues (I mean literally -- money dues) to NATAS.

In the early years, all members were eligible to vote for the National EMMYS in their area of expertise. Later, that got too cumbersome for the Academyl and they were much more selective with mostly people from the coasts voting.

Besides the national EMMYS, there are several regions that give regional EMMY's. I have worked in 4 of the regions and have eight Regional EMMY's gathering dust at home.

At least three guys I went to college with have national EMMYS, one for writing, one for live directing and one for editing.
