Windows 98 question

So.

I after that Trojan program killed my computer I used a windows 98 disk to bring it back to life.

Here is the problem. It won't find my modem.

I looked at the device manager and it reads that:

PCI communications device has a question mark.

As well as PCI input and PCI audio . . .

So I tried running windows set-up again to get the right drivers and no dice.

Any ideas?

When i get to PCI communication device and try to laod a new driver it just says it can't find one.

I am really annoyed.

Just curious, why'd you post this in DST?

Anyway have you tried downloading the driver online? I think I've done that before...

Why can't he post it here? We like James and we have some tech savvy people here like my soror D.COM.

I was just curious as to why he came directly here, which not necessarily everyone on GC checks, instead of something more general like chit chat. That's all.

There are some good computer people over here, and honestly its often a little more serious and more mature over on this side of the great divide on Greek Chat.

Sometimes I look at Chit Chat the same way King Arthur looked at Camelot in Monty Python's The Holy Grail:

ARTHUR

No, on second thought, let's not go to Camelot.

KNIGHTS

Right!

ARTHUR

It is a silly place.

LOL

D.COM has not been on a while James to help. Maybe you should PM her.

Like James said, over here we tend to be more civilized and respectful of others. We know how to have fun too. I could see if James wanted to know the rituals of an NPC org but he was asking about computers. We know about computers too.
:p

Something similar just happened to me, tho it was my ethernet card. I switched to using my USB port to hook up to the DSL modem. The internet works now but the problems aren't 100% fixed. I ended up taking it to compUSA. Maybe some will post on what exactly to do help ya.

I ended up solving the problem by loading windows XP. That had all the drivers. Sigh. I just hate paying retail.

Are you trying to imply that James has a thang for CT4? That's why he posted here? :D

mccoyred 07-21-2004 06:34 AM

Did you upgrade to Windows XP? I think the retail price is around $99.

Moving to Windows XP was probably the best thing to do anyway. Windows 98 requires drivers for EVERYTHING whereas XP uses plug-n-play for EVERYTHING.

Welcome to the 21st century....you'll be glad you did!
