Bro. Keiran Smith Enters the Omega Chapter

It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the passing of Bro. Keiran Smith. He passed Thursday morning due to complications from back surgery. Bro. Smith pledged Beta Gamma in 1988 and has been a member of Zeta Lambda (AND A LIFE MEMBER) since graduation. He also was a member of Scottish Rite Masonry in Virginia. He served as Assistant Principal at Warwick High School in Newport News, VA. He is survived by his wife and two children. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia - Keiran Maithland Smith, 35, devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend and mentor, was called to eternal life on July 9, 2004. Keiran Maithland was born February 22, 1969, in Brooklyn, New York, to Maithland Edward and Joan Monica Smith. He was employed by Newport News Public Schools as an Assistant Principal of Operations at Warwick High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Science Degree at Virginia State University. In addition, he received a Certificate of Advanced Study from Old Dominion University and was a Doctoral Candidate at The College of William and Mary. Keiran was a committed member of St. Augustine Episcopal Church where he served as the Director of Fundraising and Finance. A beloved brother and life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, he formerly served as the Vice President for the Newport News Chapter and the Education Coordinator for the Megagenesis Program. He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Barbara Dupoux Smith; two daughters, Regan Courtney, 6 years old, and Sydney Camille, 18 months old; parents, Maithland Edward and Joan Monica Smith of Baldwin, New York; brother, Andre Smith of Baltimore, Maryland; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and loved ones. Viewing will be conducted at Cooke Brothers Funeral Home, 1601 27th Street, Newport News, Virginia from 10 AM-6 PM on Tuesday, July 13, 2004. A memorial service will be held at Warwick High School, 51 Copeland Lane, Newport News, Virginia, on Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at 7 PM. A funeral service will be held at Torregrossa Funeral Home, 2265 Flatbush Ave., Brooklyn, New York, 11234, between 3 PM-7 PM on Friday, July 16, 2004. Keiran Maithland Smith will be buried on Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Pinelawn Memorial Park in New York. Memorial donations may be made to the Keiran Smith Scholarship Fund, Warwick High School, 51 Copeland Lane, Newport News, Virginia, 23601.
