Giving letters

Delt Alum, maybe you can help me with this one...

I know this may seem kind of silly, but I'm a little confused...my boyfriend REALLY wants to wear my letters. Specifically my lavaliere. When my sister got a "Fiji" lavaliere from her boyfriend, it was a big deal to our chapter. I tried to explain this to my boy (who's not Greek), but I think that he simply sees it as just another neclace. I wear one of his, so I guess he only sees it as fair. Can girls even give lavalieres to their boyfriends??? I'm so confused.

yes!

Yes, girls can lavalier their boyfriends. it doesn't happen very often, and you can usually only lavalier one person in your lifetime, but i did it with the guy i was dating last year (didn't work out, unfortunately....but oh well). so if you want to, go for it, and best of luck!!!!

It is not traditional, but I suppose it can be done.

I know at my school, the only way that you could get lavaliered was if both you and your significant other were greek. That also held true for our pinning ceremonies where guys would give up their fraternity pins to their sorority girlfriends. My chapter however doesnt allow guys to wear our letters but I've heard of varying rules at other schools.

I've never heard of a guy wanting to wear a laveliere (my part of the world calls it a "drop"). I think it might be too feminine for these Texan men to think of it! ;)

As for guys wearing sorority letters...get him a hat or a shirt or something. A drop is practically an engagement, so make sure it's true before it's given or received....

As for the sharing of pins/badges....never in a million years would I allow a guy to wear my badge. I'd never wear a fraternity pin either, and I was a fraternity sweetheart (Delt Queen) in my day. I don't know what it means, so why would I want to wear it?!?

Just my two cents! ;)

At my school a lavalier wasn't even anywhere close to an engagement - it varies from school to school.

That said, I've never heard of an AXD boyfriend being lavaliered. Sure, he can wear an EVENT shirt (like if it's the date party favor or something). But I wouldn't even want him in a set of regular letters.

Guys on our campus wear all kinds of sorority letters. They get our Bid Day shirts, Spring Rush Shirts, and any sort of party favor/mixer shirt as well.

We're just a loving, sharing family. ;)
