NPC Recruitment Periods
This is a question for all of you NPC experts out there.
I don't have a green book here otherwise i would look it up myself. Is there a period of time during the year that NPC's are not allowed to recruit women? Does this differ by campus? Any light that can be shed on this issue is very important. Thanks! |
Green book - pg. 25 under the title
Establishment and Regulation of Membership Recruitment 2. Each NPC fraternity chapter has the right to COB to reach Quota or its total allowable size during the regular school year as defined by the school calendar. ---------------------------------------------------- So, I have always understood this to mean no recruitment between the end of the school year in the spring (usually defined by graduation) until the start of the fall term... with formal recruitment exempted if held prior to the start of the fall term. This would of course differ from school to school. |
There are a few considerations.
NPC sororities cannot try to recruit people before they would be eligible to participate in formal recruitment. For instance, if a school has deferred FR to the spring, sororities cannot rush freshmen in the fall. (This would not apply to sophomores and up. I don't believe this applies to new transfers either.) Recruitment is not allowed over school breaks. For my school, this meant no recruitment during summer, between semesters, or during other vacations (spring break, etc). Sometimes, when a new sorority is colonizing, the local Panhellenic will place a moratorium on COB recruitment to allow the new colony to recruit without competition. A sorority that is both at/over total and has met quota cannot have an informal/COB recruitment. They must wait for the next FR unless they drop below total due to graduations/transfers/deaffiliations/etc. There are more recruitment-savvy people than I on GC, but I hope this helps a little. :) |
Thanks for your input everyone. i forgot about the total thing too.
thanks again. |
