Dr. Phil

Do you like Dr. Phil? I never watched him much until this summer. Most of the time I think he is pretty sensible and straight-forward.
(BTW he and I both hold Ph.D.'s from The University of North Texas, though not in the same subject)

He is very straight forward and full of common sense. I liked him better in his earlier days, he seems to be getting a little more arrogant lately. Most of what he says is just common sense, but people need to hear it. My favorite was when he had single women who were intelligent and beautiful career women who didn't understand why they were still single. He asked one what she did in her free time and she said she goes home and watches TV. He said "So if a guy wants to meet you, he has to throw himself on your windshield while you're driving home?" It was hilarious, but true. His point was simply that she needs to get out of the house or she won't meet anybody!

My mom is a Liscenced Clinical Professional Counsler and she LOVES Dr. Phil. Although, it's not really for the entertainment value of the show so much as all the stuff/help he gives away to the people on it. He's helped lots of people. I think it's great because the talk-show people get their entertainment and meanwhile, people actually get helped, unlike most talk shows where they bring them on and let them scream at eachother/beat on eachother for an hour on national TV, maybe let them talk to a shrink for 5 min., then send them home...what does that help (besides their ratings)?

I love Dr. Phil. I just started watching him this past season, and I think he's hysterical.

I've watched the show maybe twice, and I don't mind him but here's the thing -- it seems like most of the people on the show are just messed the hell up big time. There was episode I saw that featured young women who were planning their weddings in great detail even though they didn't even have boyfriends -- WTF? There was another one where Dr. Phil asked other people what they thought of how he ran the show, and there was this really cool young guy on who had the same complaint -- dude, the people you feature are wack. Why not have some people without issues the size of North America so we can learn from them? I just don't relate to the weird wedding planners or women who are married to guys who have cheated on them like 20 times and still don't get it.

I didn't used to like Dr. Phil, but now that I have all this free time, I watch him after Passions goes off. Now, even though this means I am becoming my own grandmother, I like the fact that he is pretty sensible and real with people. His wife is an attractive woman, too. Not that it makes a difference.

Can someone fill me in on his response when people pointed out to him that some people, genetically, are fat, and no stupid fad diet he hocks can change that?

I'm not saying me, I was SUPPOSED to be skinny.......haha

I like Dr. Phil pretty well although I watched him more when he was on Oprah than on his own show. His wife Robin BUGS me too much to watch the Dr. Phil show much. But I usually agree with his advice- it's the kind of stuff I'd like to tell people but am too scared/polite.

He just comes across as the kind of guy who thinks homosexuality, or even mental illness can be "coached" out of your system mentally....

I'm sorry, his whole weight loss challenge thing was an absolute joke. I can MAYBE entertain Richard Simmons giving diet advice, but not that chubby f*ck.

That was always my biggest problem - the guy is not in any kind of shape to be telling people how to change their diets.

Is his wife really attractive? Never seen what she looks like.

He stole my idea.

Dr. Phil is very no-nonsense. The families he's chosen to feature on his program are the extreme disfunctional families. Some programs make me laugh other times they don't. Overall he means well.

I watched a biography show about Dr. Phil. For those he are curious to his background in weight loss, he owned and ran a gym and was quite the jock. I don't know about his weight loss plan but if it encourages some people to workout and avoid surgery for the extremely obese isn't that a good thing?

Dr. Phil married his high school sweetheart and divorced. He met Robin when he was in grad school. She's wife number two. That I didn't know. KSig if you wait for the end of his show, Dr. Phil always walks over to wife, who's at every taping, and walks out of the studio together holding hands.
