Do you have sponsors??
 

Hey, so i was talking with this Tri-Delt today at work (she's from Michigan) and she was telling me that her sorority gets sponsored durring the school year and that sponsor basically pays for everything that they do. None of the Greeks are sponsored at my University so i was wondering if it was a common thing? If so, who are your sponsors and how do you go about doing that?

Sponsored by a corporation?

I'm not sure what kind of sponsor that one sister was referring to; however, I know that some of the fraternities at my school have sponsors during recruitment.

The most I know is that they have the companies, normally local businesses, on their recruitment shirts. As for other stuff, I dont know, but this sponsorship normally covers the cost of all the shirts they buy (which in some cases could be a lot).

I'm not sure about the sororities on campus, ie-if there is some rule about it, we've just never done it.

But in thinking like a good greek, if a sponsor will give you money, and the obligation isn't large on your half, then why not?:cool:

I know of a lot of situations with sponsors. Often a lot of charity events will have sponsors. For example the KAT's at my school had a Mr. University pageant with prizes and money from places like the Princeton Review as well as small local restaurants.

I think a long time ago (relative to my springful youth), I saw sponsors for parties too and the sponsors included alcohol companies. I imagine national offices wouldn't appreciate this and it has stopped or slowed down.

Just to caution a lot of you about sponsors: A lot of GLO National organizations have very strict rules when it comes to corporate sponsors. Be sure to check with someone at your HQ before taking one of these on.

I know 100% that Pi Phi doesn't allow sponsorships for parties or from a beer/alcohol company. For charitable events, I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that's all right, at least in some contexts (we couldn't do the "Bud Lite/Pi Phi 5K run for charity"). collme, if you have any questions, let me know. I'm not sure which context you're talking about.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. has business partnerships/sponsorship with American Express and Mass Mutal Financial Group...I know the Great Lakes Region has partnered with GM.

What would be the difference between a "sponsor" and a Patron/Patroness, then?

Does having a sponsor mean you put the Coca-cola logo on all your Tshirts and on the signage in front of your house? (ok, silly mental image there) Is there an implied endorsement of the dr's office that makes a donation? "All XYX's use Dr Curearash when break outs occur" ads in the paper?

Whereas the Patron/Patroness is the kindly, well thought of but slightly in the way, alum who writes a fat check once a year to keep things moving along with the chapter . Is that a sponsor? (Ok, we put her face on the Tshirts instead of the Pepsi logo...spreading the endorsements around)

The alumni is not giving to get anything.

The sponsor is getting into a business relationship with you.

Now should you wear entry bracelets with heineken logos donated by Heineken with beer from heineken being served that is a business relationship.

Come on...common sense you know?

I don't know how other sororities do it, but we only designate someone as a Mother Patroness if she has contributed to the chapter in multiple ways (i.e. an advisor, physical help etc). It has nothing to do with writing a check to the national or the chapter. One of the ladies from our chapter has given giant amounts to the ASA foundation, but the chapter never saw her, and she lives in the area. She certainly doesn't get to be called a "patroness."

This is on a national and regional level. I've never heard of chapters having sponsors unless its for a specific event/program.
