Loose Members

Have you ever met anyone who honestly didn't take ritualistic things seriously and you were afraid would let out privileged information about your organization? If so, what did you do?

Fortunately, I haven't come across such a person in Theta Nu Xi!!!!

oh i read the topic and thought you meant the other kind of "loose".

If you knew that they didn't take it serious enough to keep things secret, and/or if they'd already revealed secrets and it's before initiation, if it were an option, I would have them continue their New Member period (sorry that sounds so "Soroity Life" but in the situation where you don't think your NM is serious, it's a good option, if your org allows for it). This way wither the NM learns that this is serious, or they drop (that would be bad, but at least your secrets would be safe!).

We did exactly that with one girl, and she got it real quick alright.

I'd like to add that she is now a quality sister. I'm very proud of her.

If the person is already a member there's really nothing you can do about it. Other than express your concerns and try to get them to see the value of keeping things in house...

If this person is an aspirant, the buck stops there.

If I found that an active brother was sharing ritual secrets, I'd probably try to get him expelled. I had to work 3 years as a colonist to hear about the ritual. It would really tick me off if someone found it to be that trivial.

We don't have anyone who'd give ritual away, but there's a brother who let a pledge wear letters. He doesn't really understands what the letters mean since he thinks fraternity life is supposed to be, literally, Animal House.

Also we have another guy who think ritual and national is lame and that we should just pin pledges then letter them after 6 weeks....

He says he'd be proud to know he got in the house if/when we get kicked off campus.....

I've seen this happen once back in the day. That person ended up disaffiliating from the sorority. She had lots of other issues but that is a long bad story that probably would not be appropriate to post.

We haven't had this happen, but we did have a brother who didn't take the Brotherhood seriously. We expelled him and burned his membership shingle and made sure he knew how we felt about him and his actions and the way he tarnished the chapters image around campus. As for what he did that can't be spoken about, since it falls under our chapter constitution as Speaking of the Peace -
Quote:

Speaking of the Peace shall be considered the same as ritual and shall not be discussed with anyone except a brother of the chapter.
Not that anyone cares, but just incase.
