Political leaning and stance on abortion
Yeah- I really dont want this to be a debate thread. List your position and justify your own, but dont question or interrogate others' views.
What is your political leaning and your stance on abortion? Me: I'm a pro-life Democrat (yes, we do exist) but I won't vote for someone based solely on that issue, nor do I believe I could use my personal view to vote on a bill if I were in an elected position- I feel this is an issue where I would need to listen to my constituents and voice their opinion, not mine. My position is based on the feelings I've had everytime a friend or relative has been pregnant or thought they were pregnant- just an overwhelming emotion that it would be wrong to terminate the pregnancy. |
There's been many many a thread on this topic.
Here's one you can check out: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...457#post752457 |

Yep, there have been many of threads on this-- it's obviously a hot topic.
I'm a pro-life Republican for many reasons. One of the main reasons is I believe in the sanctity of human life. I believe life starts at conception, therefore I'm pro-life, therefore I vote Republican. I can't imagine being a Pro-life democrat. I just don't understand that position at all. I'm not arguing with you or saying that you're not pro-life, or anything, I'm just saying I don't understand it. To me human life is a bigger issue than than taxes, healthcare, etc, and if you're a pro-life democrat, then you've chosen to care more about other issues than human life. I have friends that are pro-life dems, and I just don't understand it. |
Just as not all Republicans feel the same on every single issue, neither do all Democrats. I'm sure somewhere, lurking in the shadows, is an enclave of pro-choice Republicans. Political parties typically stand for a general ideology, not specific issues. Different sectors of different parties have their own beliefs on certain topics. It's unfair and inaccurate to generalize.

I was a delegate to a Democratic National Convention, and was asked - no, told - to sign the agreement with the planks of the Democratic party, which includes abortion. Being young and foolish, I signed and in doing so, perjured my beliefs.
I would vastly prefer to be an Independent, but I live in a state which disenfranchises Independents in the Primary. So, I became a Republican. |
