Alumnae Associations

Just in case you haven't heard about this yet...

Alumnae associations have started to spring up across the country!

The organization of an alumnae association is via an email listserv. The association is based on chapter/university origins only and does not require geographic proximity to the chapter, as all activity is online via email.

And our Nat'l site has been updated and provides a list to all alum associations.

Anyway, Just thought I'd get the word out!

pardon my barge, but this is an AWESOME idea and one I've been wishing our nationals would do for a long time. Are there any dues associated with this or is it mainly just to keep people interested in Phi Sig?

MooseGirl 06-28-2004 05:21 PM

no dues.
it's just alum who are interested in keeping in touch.

i'm the Alumnae Association Liaison for my chapter, so I invited all the alum who had emails...

and as sisters graduate, I invite them....I'm thinking of having the alumnae chairman join too so she can post chapter events

it's nice cuz you can upload pictures too, so for instance my sapphire sister got married 3 weeks ago, and I had a digital camera, so I put her pics up immediately...

I moderate it - not a big deal, just making sure only phi sigs join

a couple times ppl i don't know ask to join so I just ask information for verification

I am the Alumnae Assoc. Liaison for the Beta Omega chapter... unfortunately, it has not been as well recieved around here. People are a little weary and we haven't had anyone send in any news in 3 months! Oh well, I'm still doing it.

I am the Liaison for Iota Gamma. The group just started last week so we haven't had a lot of alum sisters sign up yet. The worst part is that one sister did join but asked me at work today to be removed from the list - no reason given just that she didn't mean to join it. I've asked her to reconsider but not sure if she will. I did give her the address for unsubscribing and am leaving it up to her to follow through with it or not.

The only things posted so far has been the news about CO hiring new membership managers and volunteer job listing. I think I'm going to invite the alum chair too but want to check with eboard to see what they think about it.

I just think this is a great way for chapter alum to keep in touch and hopefully remind them about the sisterhood they shared in college and still share today.

Our use has been spotty, but there have def been a bit of interest - One sister opened her own store so she mentionned that....another sister was in a car accident, so I found out about it on there....

But yeah, now that the weddings of the season are over, not much is going on....I try and make posts every week though

Some people are afraid of the drama... Don't worry, she'll come around eventually.

it's always good to remind them to they can alter their options - as in they can get messages in digests, individually, or not at all. that way they can just go online when they feel like it and not get all the email filling their inbox...

Hey Jen,

Thanks for that idea. I think I'll try and post that message on the group today about they can get all their messages together rather then individually. The person who asked is one of my
co-workers. I did email her the info to unsubscribe but she hasn't yet (good) and she hasn't said anything more to me about it so hopefully she won't.

Beth said the alum may be afraid of drama on the messages boards but that is the beauty of being a moderator for it. If I think the message is going to cause problems I will delete it. I will email the person who wrote it to let them know why I did it though.

When I was undergrad alumnae chair I started the list they have posted on the PSS website now. Ali had started a list before I took over but we couldn't figure out the password or something so I restarted it. It's pretty successful, it's been going for a couple of years now. I'm the biggest poster I think. They asked if I would like to be the liason and I said I would but I think it would kinda take away from the undergrad's position--what do y'all think?
