Question about Phi Mu.
 

Okay this might sound like a dumb question but I'm kind of curious.

So I decided to check out the Phi Mu official website, just to learn more about the organization. I then looked at their list of collegiate chapters and was surprised to "learn" that they only have 48 (at least according to the website) collegiate chapters.

I have to say I'm completely surprised by this number. I really thought since Phi Mu is only a year (not even that) younger than us that they would have close to as many collegiate chapters that we have (I counted, 131). Does anyone know why they don't have as many chapters (as I thought they would)? What about expansion, anyone know about that? I would personally love to see a Phi Mu here in Arizona somewhere.

That is not all of their chapters. If you go to the link where you choose a state to see where the Phi Mu chapters are there you can see they are not all on that list (for example there is a chapter at Baldwin Wallace in Ohio and that is not on the list) Those are chapter associations and I am not sure what that means...there are collegiate, alumnae, and chapter association groups. I am not sure what chapter associations are though...but not every chapter has one. Pick a state and check it out.

Can a phi mu tell us what chapter associations are?

I remember seeing on the website "collegiate" listed and then "chapter associations" listed. I wonder what the difference is?

maybe their chapter associations are like our provinces?

With some organizations, there are alumnae associations that cover women from many chapters in an area where there is not a collegiate chapter, and there are chapter (alumnae) associations for women who are alumnae of a certain chapter and still live near that chapter and help that chapter out and do things with that chapter. So that may be what's going on with them.

If you want a Phi Mu to answer the question, you might want post it to the Phi Mu boards, since I doubt the average Phi Mu will read a post on our boards simply titled "Question" without their name or symbols mentioned... :)

If you're the original poster, you should be able to edit the first post in the thread. I know it can be done because I see the AKAs and the DSTs do it all the time! :) Give it a try! Or simply post a new thread in the Phi Mu forum...

It was from Sageofages (Pam):

We currently have 125 active collegiate chapters.

Chapter Associations are organization so all sisters ever initiated by a particular chapter. Sort of an alum group for a collegiate chapter. Say Delta Psi Chapter Association is only for the 200+ women initiated Delta Psi Chapter. This is different from an alum chapter which is for all Phi Mu alumnae in an area no matter the collegiate chapter they were initiated into.

Pam is correct...A Phi Mu Chapter Association is a group of all ladies ever intiated into a particular collegiate chapter. They are different from Alumnae Chapters in that alumnae chapters are made up of individuals living in a certain area regardless of their chapter of intiation. Chapter Association are excellent support systems for our collegaite chapters. They kept the alumnae newsletters going, they hold chapter reunions, support the collegiate chapters during recruitment, college homecoming events, etc...and most of all financially! They sort of keep everyone connected to their collegiate chapters!!!
