Posted in Chit Chat because I didn't want to start a war or anything.

How do you all feel about Eta Omicron chapters and other such things? If you are Eta Omicron, has it ever been an issue? I'm looking for honest answers, because I really want to know if it's ever something.

pardon my intrusion, i am not sure that i or anyone else for that matter understand your reasoning behind the question. it is a chapter name just like Epsilon Zeta. it would be kinda sad if a chapter name decided the fate of the members. Upsilon Omicron- the inner city chapter. Mu Epsilon- the self involved chapter.
just a coincidence.

It's just two greek letters. They had no "other" meaning before, say, the 80s and I'm hoping one day that they'll no longer have any ulterior meanings. Luckily my chapter's letters are a fairly normal combo, but even if they weren't, I wouldn't pay any mind to someone who made fun of it. Obviously they have no clue.

I don't think there's a problem with chapter names. Though I can understand someone being annoyed with the label Epsilon Zeta, but it'd never bother me really. Hardly anyone knows the chapter designations of the other groups on campus, so I don't think it'd be a major issue.

Our Theta Xi chapter was Beta Omicron but since they were hygenic it wasn't an issue. ;)

Some groups skip "Eta" altogether as a first letter - I think because it sounds like "Ate-A." The only chapter we have that starts with it is Eta Eta (our oldest chapters are all double letters).

You know, I have thought about our chapter letters...

Beta Kappa

When I think of BK I think of Burger King....

So, yes, I have thought about it, but it's not a big deal....

It's an English/Lit. Professional GLO

And I've mentioned it before, and someone pointed out that they were probably (almost for sure) formed before STD was common terminology.

we are the iota mu chapter--we'd joke about being the "I'm" chapter but no one really payed attention i don't think.

Optimist Prime 06-22-2004 07:07 PM

we're Iota Zeta. IZ. It looks like 'is' but there's not much you can do with that.

SapphireSphinx9 06-22-2004 07:24 PM

We're the Iota Gamma Chapter... People are always like, "IT? What does that mean?"

The Sigma Pi's on our campus are Eta Iota... And refer to themselves as the "high" fraternity. (or at least they use to when I was there)

Kevin 06-22-2004 07:39 PM

We're the Mu Tau chapter.. MT.

Like Mountain. Except we're in Oklahoma, so I guess it's pretty meaningless.

Of course, it becomes instantly interesting when you take my badge number (5) as a roman numeral and make me "MTV"

wreckingcrew 06-22-2004 07:42 PM

I'd prefer that to a chapter designation that is the same letters as an established GLO.

Like when people see my badge number and ask, 'Kappa Sigma? But i thought you were a Sigma Nu"

Our Eta Omicron chapter at University of Louisiana-Monroe is a great chapter winning numerous Smythe's as well as being a strong house on campus.

another little bit to add Tim McGraw PKA HO chapter
