Seccisism

I know I mispelled that but I really don't care, and neither should you.

This is in responce to the thread about the crazy guy from South Carolina.

The U.S. is a Federation of Sovereign States. Do the states have a right to drop out?

Would anyone care if South Carolina left? Let's review the facts:

They tried to block the declaration of independence because of the slavery clause, which they later had removed.

And they were the first to split during the civil war.

I just wish they would stop trying to get VA to go along with them. They only wanted Richmond as capital after the war started. Jerks. I wouldn't miss them at all if they left.

I think the Civil War pretty much settled the issue on legal secession. Some states still talk about it from time to time (Hawaii), however, I don't think it'll really ever happen.

They should just do what California did. They ceded a long time ago. They just didn't tell anyone about it.

What?

California isn't a part of the Union anymore?

It sort of did. I was never comfortable with the concept that once you join the US, you can never leave. I think that a state should be able to leave the US the same way it came in; with permission from 2/3 (I think its that many) of the states.

OMG, no, Indivudual States cannot secede.

But, Texas is still known as A Republic.:)

But theoreticaly, if a State can leave the Union, and is then embargoed, how do they survive?

Well, The Federal Govt of The USA would probably give them $$$$$$ like they do to other Foriegn Countrys, more so than is given to each State!

Interesting question tho!;)

Ever wonder why there is a North and South Carolina?

Was it because they were the biggest land mass State, and getting to powerful and Big For their Briches!:D

It's kind of like "The Family" isn't it?

By your emoticon, I see that I have confused you.

I mean to say that California, while technically it is part of the US, when you go there, it really doesn't resemble the rest of the US.

You with me now?:D

It was originally split into 2 colonies by King George I and stayed that way ever since.

South Carolina is the best state in the union.

I hope you stay away though; the Outer Banks of NC have already been ruined by you tourists. Stay away from our SC coasts. Ugh.

Oh okay. I thought they called themselves a Republic now or something or tried to get out of tax or something. :D

Well, to you, but it was in jest... Come down all you want, please see the SC coast and mountains, they are beautiful.

I do feel the outer banks have been spoiled though... and I won't even mention the utter hell that is Myrtle Beach.
