Okinawa, Japan
Hey everyone. Logged onto my Virtual Military Personnel File online yesterday, and found out that I when I am finished with Tech School here in Biloxi, Mississippi, I will be reporting to the 390th Intelligence Squadron at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan.
Sweeeet :) |
One of my friends from college moved over there last year with his wife. They said it wasn't half bad.
Enjoy! |
The waves are freaking awesome. Check out Zanpa when you have time, and you'll be able to learn how to surf if you want!
Lame as it sounds, I have a niece named "Cadena", named after Kadena AFB. She was born there while my brother was still in the military. Many people put Okinawa on their dream sheets because it's actually a good place to be. Congratulations. |
I know we've already talked about this, but my parents loved it there. My mom goes back about twice a year and still loves it. Remember to buy a box of the Chinsuko dark chocolates and mail them to me! :p You'll have a blast over there. Send postcards :)

i didn't think the waves were that tasty, but you could probably catch a hop to someplace awesome *cough*goldcoast*cough.*
it is a beautiful place, though. you should take the historic tour, it's interesting. and eat everything. yakisoba, beef curry, sushi, sashimi, it's all good. |
Whatever you do, please stay away from the natto. Bleeeeeeeeeeeeeccccch!
|
Lucky you, Doe-Shay ;)

Okinawa has become a second home to my family.
My father was stationed there for a year by himself. Then we all moved there from '89 to '92. My family moved back there in '99 and left in '02. Now my sister is married to a man in the Air Force and they've been there for a year...three more to go. We all love Okinawa. It's a beautiful place with beautiful people. The happiest times of my life were spent on Okinawa. My brother shares the same sentiment. He graduated high school there in '02. I'm not sure what it is like to actually be in the military and be stationed on Okinawa, but to be a military dependent and live on Okinawa is like nothing I've experienced and it's bitter sweet to think that I'll never experience anything like it again. Take it all in. Visit the sites, taste the food, try to learn the language, etc. Please keep us updated as to when you arrive there as well as your thoughts and feelings. :) |
I put Japan down on my dream sheet, but I doubt I'll get it. I want to go JAG, so more than likely I'll stay in the US or have to go the Germany. Not that Germany would be bad, but I would like to experience the Japanese culture more than the German one. Unless of course I go Airborn and get sent to Iraq...
