Getting Involved

I wonder about all the positions avaliable to people who are alumnae of ADPi. I know there are IO positions for the Districts and GC positions, TCC, and Providence Directors, but are there other positions people can get involved with?

The reason I ask is because I want to stay as involved as I can be. I am trying to get as much experience as I can so that hopefully oneday I can be on Grand Council. Its tough though when all the positions are filled and most of the positions people love so they dont abandon them for a long time.

I know I am in good contact with Barb Kunkel and Dani Sparks, the two people in my district and have expressed to them several times how interested I am and call me about anything.

Any advice from people who are IOs or other positions as to what to do to keep involved until something comes up? Also what positions can you take to gain experience for the IO positions and other positions?

For now I am in my AA and trying to help start the online one and I am House Corporation House Manager (which is a task in itself lol) Anything else you suggest to gain more experience?

I appreciate anyones advice.... :) Pi Love

Good gosh, girl, you seem to have the highway paved with diamonds already!!! Are you planning to become our Leader at some point? :)

I think everyone has to find her own niche in being an alumna. I've been a Chapter Advisor, and active in many other roles, but I'm finding my ADPi niche as a sounding board/stooge for a good ADPi friend and the Virtual Violets. Obviously, I have no huge goals, but this is what makes me happy!

If you go to Pride Online, there is a list of all of the IO officers-- regional, district, etc. That may be something to browse to see what positions are available, how many in an area, etc.

I think what IO position you'd want to hold would lead you to examine related positions in your AA. If you have interest in being a financial officer, then a background in finance and experience as Treasurer for your AA would be the way to go. If you're interested in being the ADPi Panhellenic Delegate, then you might want to see if there's an Alumnae Panhellenic Council in your area and get involved there. If you want to be a Province/District rep with a focus on advising chapters, then being an advisor to a nearby chapter may be a great way to gain experience.

I don't know if people interview for these positions, or are appointed to them, or elected... I'm sure it depends on which level position you're interested in. I'd definitely email Barb Kunkel and others with specific questions about their positions and other positions-- How many years experience in what kind of position do they look for when filling a vacant District-level position? What experiences/background did they have before they started the current position, or which offices held best prepared them for the office they're in? That sort of thing.

They may or may not be interested in answering your questions, but I know it's always easier to ask than to wonder, and I know it's easier to answer specific questions than to remember to email people when random positions show up.

(Oh, and there's always a form in the Adelphean and on Pride Online where they ask for volunteers to serve ADPi at various levels-- filling out that form may lead to offers for your to serve as a chapter advisor, or on a committee, etc.)

Another group available out there are the Alumnae Panhellenic Associations. These groups have delegates from all sororities & promote the National Panhellenic Conference and sororities in general. You can get info about groups near you by contacting NPC - their website is www.npcwomen.org
