Ladies, why you gotta hate motorcycles?

Ladies,

I know not all of you hate motorcycles. But a lot of females i know dont like em. especially my mom, sis and some girl i am seriously dating right now. i told them i wanted to sell my truck and buy a bike. ALL have responded with enormous negativity. ok yeah, it is a little more dangerious. just a tad. but why so much hate?

and now some chick at my work just blurted out..." i hate motorcycles!". so since i'm at a computer at work i decided to ask the greekchat chicas..."why you gotta hate?"

i hate because my uncle was killed on his 2 years ago. They are a lot more dangerous than a car. You have no protection surrounding you. Also guys tend to think they're somewhat invincible on them. And you're just more vulnerable. Said uncle was run over by a pickup truck that failed to stop at a stop sign (oh yeah, drunk driving illegal immigrant who fled the scene and then the country).

So it's not even if you drive safe. My uncle was very safe in his riding. If he had been in a car, he would've easily survived.

that's my personal reason. Have you asked the people in your life their reasons when they say they hate them?

I think there are an equal amount of both men and women who dislike motorcycles, so I don't think it's fair to question the women on this one.

I love bikes. My ex had an R6 that he probably loved more than he loved me. We'd often go riding together, but my mom couldn't know about it because I've lost 2 friends and a cousin to motorcycle accidents. If I had the time to take riding lessons and go get my bike license (not to mention a couple Gs to get a bike), I'd probably do it. A bunch of my friends ride with "Dangerous Curves", the only all female "biker chick" organization on the island.

Just like when operating a car, you can be the world's safest driver out there, but you can't say the same for the other idiots on the road. When you're in a car, at least you have some protection with restraints. You're at greater risk on a bike, even with a helmet.

I absolutely love them! Two words: gas mileage. Okay, that's not the only reason..I get such a thrill from riding with my fiance on his Honda, I would be so bummed if he ever wanted to sell it.

They scare me only because my brother in law was hurt really badly when a guy ran a stop sign and hit. Thankfully he didn't die but he was hurt badly.
BUT my husband has owned a couple and wants another one. I would probably let him get another one even though they scare me. I won't let my fears stop him from getting a motorcycle.

I love them (at least the look of them)
But I won't get on one. 2 of my uncles got into near fatal accidents on motorcycles. I promised my grandmother that I would not get on one (Nana is still alive)

Also my brother in law nearly lost his leg when he was young due to a motorcycle accident

co sign with the more dangerous.. my mom was injured pretty badly on her motorcycle..

but if you're careful, they're fun :)

I have my license and I'm looking to buy a new bike this summer.
I absolutely love my bike.. but there is no way I would EVER agree to my boyfriend driving or getitng one.. he's far too wreckless in a car to ever handle a bike :\

They look awesome and a guy riding one is HOT, BUT Id rather it be someone elses guy. Too many accidents involved and bad things that happen to people.

I am in this situation right now as well. My hubby wants one, BADLY, I mean he almost begs while he looks at the motorcycles online and in magazines. I just am so nervous about them. Ill probably agree to him getting one cause I want him to be happy and get something he really wants, but I told him he cant even start a bike up without a helmet. I see so many people riding around places with no helmets. When we are driving I point every one I see out. Im like no helmet, no helmet, no helmet. I just am protective of him and honestly I dont know how Id live without him if something horrible happened.

I guess its the same as having a car or walking on the street or riding in a plane. Anymore everything is unsafe and people die from everything so as long as he isnt riding like a a-hole and without a helmet Im ok with it.

Most girls are just nervous and scared, they dont want to see someone hurt.

My husband's mother has recently gotten waaaay into motorcycles. As in, she just moved to Myrtle Beach, got her motorcyle license, and now runs a bike shop w/ her boyfriend. Dunno'.

SilverTurtle 06-17-2004 10:59 PM

I love motorcycles. I grew up with a dad that has ridden forever. My older bro rode. My mom hates them, but she's the only one in my family. I got my first dirtbike when I was about 13 or 14. If I had extra money, I'd probably think about getting one now.

Growing up in that environment, it just seems unnatural to be afraid to get on one. Sure, they can be more dangerous due to people around you. But if something's gonna happen, it's gonna happen. I learned to ride safely and defensively, and enjoy it.

I don't hate them, there just isn't enough steel between the motorcyclist and everything else out there. Honestly, Emergency Department docs refer to them as "donorcycles" because so many organs are harvested every year from people who were in fatal motorcycle accidents.

That said, if you still have the riding bug, then make sure you get the best safety equipment and wear it, to at least tilt the odds in your favor.

I'm thinking about getting a powder pink Vespa. Do the ladies hate or love this?

I agree with kddani...it's just too damn sad what can happen so the people that care for you probably have issues with that.

Heh- my colony has a name for guys that ride around on crotch-rockets: The Small Penis Society.
Perhaps that's why girls dont like motorcycles?

Also: one of our alumni (well, he was an active when this happened) died in a motorcycle crash about 1 block from the chapterhouse back in the late 90s.

I don't hate motorcycles. I like them, but you would never catch me on one by mnyself.

Besides, its a great way to get "close" to the cute guys!

My friend's boyfriend's cousin was decapitated during a motorcycle accident.

So yeah.........I really don't like 'em. They look cool, but I'd rather not be the person riding it.
