McAfee Firewall Products
Does anyone know what the Privacy service module of the McAfee Security Center suite does?
I've had the 3 month trial of the anti virus module for a while, downloaded the 'Personal Firewall+' part yesterday and wondered what the 'Privacy Service' part does, too? Is it prevention of keyloggers/spyware etc? Or does that come under the anti-virus program? The help files don't say much and as I'm on dialup I don't want to download it if it wouldn't be much use as it takes aaages!. :) Thanks! |
It mainly blocks cookies and such that can track how many times you visit.

Oh right, thanks :) :)
I'll probably skip downloading it then as I always think of cookies as really innocuous things? I.e. if it's that important to them how often I visit their site then who am I to argue! :) Unless anyone knows of more sinister (non-theoretical) uses of cookies? |
While I was still in the trial phase of my McAfee suite, I downloaded the Privacy Service. I don't recommend it. There are a lot of websites that are unviewable unless you allow cookies. For a week, I couldn't figure out why some webpages would take two minutes to download (I have a cable internet connection!) and some webpages wouldn't download at all. After getting rid of the Privacy Service, my computer was back to normal.
I just clean my system with Spybot/Adaware and Window Washer once a week...it does the same thing without slowing down my computer. |
