Confederate Flags
I have a question for a history buff or anyone who might know the answer! :)
I have always thought that this is the Confederate "Stars and Bars": http://www.american-flags-flag-poles...nd-bars-lg.jpg And this was their battle flag: http://www.flags-by-swi.com/F3.JPEG But it seems that when people talk about the flag some Southerners fly in their yards and the flag that flies over the South Carolina capitol building, the flag to which they refer is the one I know as the "battle flag", yet they call it the "Stars and bars" Am I wrong about which flag is which? Or does "Stars and Bars" refer to any Confederate flag? Are the terms interchangeable? |
Hope someone can answer this definitively.
I think you're correct -- but I'm not absolutely sure. |

Here is a good site about the confederate flags. http://americancivilwar.com/south/conflag/southflg.html Edited to add the flag you showed is the Navy flag. The battle flag is a smaller version of the navy flag. |

My friend, who teaches United States History in a high school, has students that don't understand what exactly the "Stars and Bars" are and has them learn all of the flags of the Confederacy. Of course, she also makes her kids learn about the Union, too :) |
Thanks, Cluey and TKE!

Each area of the Confederacy had their own Flags which they flew and all were different.
The Stars and Bars became the Optomin of The Confederacy. This became the one that most people beleive is the Racisim flag of slavery which is not true. They used it as was later know as the Battle Flag. The Civil War Did not start in the East. Does anyone know where it started and what and where was the Gettysburg of the West Fought? In this same vein, where did Blacks first fight in the Civil War? Ever hear of The Buffalo Soldiers? the 5 th and 7 th Cavarly, It wasnt Custer! Ah The Indian Wars of The West. Who was The Most Decorated Group In that era? Lets Talk History! Oh, the Al. State Flag did not have the Battle Flag in its Flag. |
