Sad news from EO

I just got this email, so I thought I'd pass it on...

Dear Sisters,

It is with a deep sadness that I write to tell you that our Grand President Emeritus Maxine Blake passed away yesterday afternoon, June 14. Miss Blake who served as our Grand President from 1948 to 1977 celebrated her 100th birthday in January. She died peacefully in her sleep just after a visit from Stacy Farmer, a former TCC and international officer.

The family will hold a private graveside service later this week, but the schedule is pending at this time. Alpha Delta Pi representatives will attend the service.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Alpha Delta Pi Sorority for the Maxine Blake Memorial.

Love and Loyally,

Linda

Thats so sad, she was such an impt person to ADPi.

My thoughts go out to her family.

I am passing this news on to our alum board and our chapter president here.

suwhitestl 06-15-2004 06:32 PM

I did the same here. It is a sad day for ADPi.

Please also keep Stacy Farmer in your prayers. She is an inspiring leader and has made a consistent effort to visit with Miss Blake over the years. She has lost a dear friend as well as an inspiration to us all today.

Their friendship shows what We live for Each Other really means.

For those that don't know -- Stacy is in her late 20's early 30's. Just shows that Adpi friendships are lifelong and can be a lifetime apart.

I have forwarded this on to the email addresses I have for BT/Akron Area Alumnae (over 200 addresses). My thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and sisters.

that's amazing that she was able to guide ADPi for so long. What a rich life she must have led.

There must be something about being a sorority woman that lengthens your life. Last year KD lost one of our lifelong leaders who also was very advanced in the years.

I'm sure Miss Blake will be remembered and revered for a very long time.

I never had the privilege of meeting Miss Blake, but I know that her life was devoted to Alpha Delta Pi. While she hasn't been able to attend recent conventions/conferences due to her illness, she has been an inspiration to us all.

I'll be saying special prayers for Stacey, too. What a loving person she must be, to personify "We Live For Each Other" for Miss Blake!

I can't believe I have tears running down my face...

Question: I know Miss Blake was 100 years old and all, but do y'all think that we should have a day when we all wear our pins along with a black ribbon?

We did that when a sister passed away, and it was rather moving.

AshleyPi 06-16-2004 11:54 PM

Honey,
I think wearing our pins with a black ribbon is a wonderful way to honor Miss Blake. Please, let's choose a date to do this as a memorial. God Bless.

honeychile 06-17-2004 12:17 AM

When is the first day of Conference? Maybe that would be a good date? Or can someone think of a better date?

ADPiAkron 06-17-2004 12:34 AM

Someone should email EO and suggest this idea to them!! I think it would be great if all sisters would do this! She was such a phenomenal woman she deserves the recognition!

just hearing all that Miss Blake has done is amazing. I know she is the one who installed my own chapter. honey i think your idea is a great one :)

IMPACT is coming up. Perhaps we could all wear them on that Sunday in Miss Blake's honor?

honeychile 06-18-2004 12:11 AM

What is the exact date of IMPACT, Ashley? Next Sunday, June 27th? Even though it's mr honeychile's birthday, I'm game.

After all, I've known (about) Miss Blake since I was 17. Mr. honeychile came along, well, a bit later.

AshleyPi 06-22-2004 08:14 PM

IMPACT begins this Friday. This coming Sunday sounds wonderful for all of us to honor her memory.

I think this Sunday would be a wonderful day to honor Miss Blake, even for those of us who did not have the opportunity to meet her or be able to be at IMPACT this year, since I'm sure there will be some sort of honoring ceremony in her name.
