New Car Question

I may be buying my Step dad's old car from him - '99 Intrepid. When he was telling me about the car, he said something about "Slapstick shifting". What the hell is that? It's an automatic.....That's about all I know. I'm not real good with cars. Can someone 'splain me?

I have no idea what it is, but I have an Intrepid now, and it's my least favorite car I've ever had. It always has problems and is a boat. Very hard to park. Make sure you've driven it around for awhile before you decide!

slapstick means you can drive it like a stick if you want, but there is no clutch, so you can just slap the stick into whichever gear you want. Make sure you go in order though.

I personally have a pretty low opinion of Chryslers from that era.

i thought that is what it was. there is a term for it that i cannot remember. my sister has it in her VW. it is an automatic, but you can move the gear over to this other setting. it is nothing major. perfect for people who cannot drive a stick. instead of 'gear 1,2,3,4,5,R' there is symbol '+' for higher gear and '-' for lower gear. it is really cool

i think the proper term for it is tetronic or something

Last year on our trip to Florida, Mr. SSS and I rented an Eclipse Spyder that had that slapstick thing. I didn't know it was called that though. Seem kinda pointless to me, but whatever... I just think it takes all the fun out of driving a manual.

Ha Ha, everyone calls it different! Easy Glide, Turbo slush, flush or what ever.:D

Hell, you can drive any automatic like a stick. Best not to as not designed to!

Got a 5 speed, dont mind putting the clutch in and shifting.

When you have Transmission work, a manual is a lot cheaper!:D
