Gc=pc

Ok, does anyone feel we are getting a little too PC and a little too worried about stepping on people's toes and a little too obssessed with attacking people?
Cause I'm feeling that right now.

We have threads about what can and cannot be viewed by possibly someone as being disrespectful to our letters.

The minute a debate starts, people begin jumping down other people's throats.

I didn't want to hijack the Ronald Regan thread on the Greek Life section, so if you are confused about this next reference, surf over to there are read it. DGMarie posted an editorial from a Chicago newspaper, and people jump down her throats that she is a liberal, and that she is a disgrace to DG. For all we know, she totally disagrees with the editorial. She never said one way or another. Maybe she is an ultra-conservative. We don't know.

My point is, we(greeks as a whole) that every chapter is different, so we can't steroytpe based on one experience with one chapter. How is GC different? I represent MY chapter of Tri Delta, my small liberal chapter. I don't think anyone should base their entire view of Tri Delta on me...just like we shouldn't call anyone a disgrace to their org (and I don't just mean DG...I've read it before)

In short...Can't we all just get along??

And let the flaming begin.....

I think the problem is that people don't know how to be respectful in their commentary. There's a way to get your point across without resorting to 3rd grade mentality. Everyone doesn't have to agree or get along. It's unrealistic to think that. IMHO.

I do think that there needs to be a little more kindness among the GreekChat community - not just for each other, but also for each other's GLO/brothers/sisters.

There was nothing wrong with that article being quoted, but the WHERE it was placed was, well, I had another phrase here, but I'll go with insensitive instead. When it comes to death, you really have to be a little more sensible about these things. Some people are taught this in their homes, others have to learn it once they leave home - if ever.

I know we've threatened a thread on "Netiquette" more than once; maybe it's time we see it through.

Well said, DolphinChicaDDD!

Folks... before you proceed to rip someone a new a**hole because his or her views violently disagree with yours, stop and think before you commit your thoughts to ink or digital format.

This is why I'm glad you're my sis. ;)

I don't think I've ever been embarassed by a fellow Tri Delt's conduct on GC and I hope I've not embarassed my sisters too often either. :p

We discussed this in another Greek community that I'm a part of recently, and decided that it's ridiculous. Where in the world does it say that Greeks aren't allowed to have political opinions? The way you conduct yourself in a political thread might have ramifications on the way somebody views your organization (i.e. if you start calling people baby-killers or commie pinkos) , but surely nobody is stupid enough to call somebody a disgrace to their organization based on the fact that they, um, have an opinion. Or at least I thought . . .

Yeah, people need to take the stick out of their vaginas. I've been posting on GC for three years, and I can only count on my right hand how many times I TRULY got offended about something I read.

Don't they call those Dildos? :p

Sorry couldn't resist.

I miss the original slim Sh80. All other incarnations are mere pale imitations.

I totally agree with this one....If you say anything that COULD be taken as POSSIBLY racist you are destroyed by like 38290402938409 posts...its like get over it already, lets just get along...

Xylochick216 06-09-2004 10:38 PM

I agree. People are allowed to express their opinions. They shouldn't be judged or have their organization judged based on what they said. I happen to be very liberal. That doesn't mean that my organization is liberal by any means. Same for others.

As for the Reagan article, I can see why it was posted. I think that it should have been in another forum, yes, but people are allowed to think that he wasn't a great president. I think we should all mourn for the loss of a president, but people can still hate his politics.

And I agree about the racism posts. If someone says something you think is racist, you can PM them instead of turning it into a 10 page war. It gets a little old :)

Just my .02 :)

I think the race issue on GC is another whole issue. I think that it should be addressed on the board because chances are there are people who think the same way as the original poster. And I think it's perfectly all right to call someone out if you think they're being racist.

But it's not okay to tell them that they're a disgrace to their fraternity or sorority because of it. Why bring our GLOs into it at all?

i've never been offended.

starang21 06-09-2004 10:54 PM

i think a lot of people proceed to make ignorant comments and pretend that their comments won't offend....then proceed to complain that everyone is being too PC. who are you to tell someone of a different culture what's offensive and not offensive to them? lets think about perspective, people.
