Desperate Clinton Upset About Not Speaking at Reagan Funeral

Former President and Cigar-enthusiast Bill Clinton is apparently angry that he was not invited to speak at the late, great President Reagan's Funeral. Well guess what Bill? This one is NOT ABOUT YOU!!! This is not a photo-opt, even though so many of your democrat friends will use it as one; this is a FUNERAL!

I think Clinton is just angry and desperate that he will always be remembered for his scandals, not his politics, and he is looking for anyway he can to save-face and look good to the public. This funeral has been planned long before Reagan died, and it is not a "partisan" event because Clinton was not invited to speak. Clinton was not invited to speak because he is not a sitting president, and the family of the late Reagan DOES NOT WANT Clinton to speak at the funeral. It's the family's choice! Clinton, like many democrats either hated or strongly disliked President Reagan, and he should be lucky he even gets to go to the funeral.

Furthermore, all of the speakers who have been asked to speak, were very close to Reagan, and have legitimate reasons to speak. Margaret Thatcher considered Reagan one of her closest political allies and friends. The former Prime Minister of Canada also considered Reagan a friend and confidant. It's obvious why George H.W. Bush is speaking-- because he was Reagan's Vice President!!!
And George W. Bush is speaking because he is the current sitting President.
Clinton needs to grow up and realize that the world doesn't revolve around him, and has no legitimate reasons to speak. And to imply that this is a partisan event is ludacrist.

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX TUE JUNE 08, 2004 11:02:52 ET XXXXX
CLINTON DISAPPOINTMENT: LEFT OFF FUNERAL SPEAKERS LIST

Former President Bill Clinton has privately expressed anger he has apparently been left off the speakers list of Friday's Reagan State Funeral, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

"President Clinton really held out all hope the funeral would be a nonpartisan event, like Nixon's was," a top Clinton source said on Tuesday morning. "He's angry and disappointed neither he nor President Carter have been asked to speak, as of yet."

The top source says Clinton has been critical that both Bush presidents will address the crowd gathered at National Cathedral.

Nixon's vice president Gerald Ford did not speak at Nixon's funeral.

Clinton's inner circle is convinced Nancy Reagan has personally shut out Clinton from any high-profile participation.

"It is a state funeral, using tax dollars," the top Clinton insider explained.

Former President George H.W. Bush, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney will join President Bush in eulogizing Ronald Reagan, Reagan's office announced. Presiding over the service will be former Sen. John Danforth of Missouri, who is an ordained Episcopal priest. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and the Rabbi Harold Kusher will give readings, while Irish tenor Ronan Tynan will sing.

The eulogy is being prepared by President Bush's chief speechwriter, Michael Gerson, who also wrote the president's moving speech for a memorial service in the same cathedral after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

if you're going to get all worked up over people criticizing Reagan, then i don't think it's all that wise of you to criticize other presidents.

Lol and this came from the Drudge report as well. Thats almost like getting a scoop from Rush's site.

Poor guy. But look on the bright side for him. He's getting all this free pub because of his bellyaching. To force yourself in (or even try to) in order to speak at someone's funeral is just plain wrong.

Bill needs to check his ego.

DZHBrown 06-09-2004 08:06 AM

There's no reason for Clinton to speak. He wasn't a personal friend of Reagan as the Bush presidents were.

Drudge is a joke. What is amazing is that people read that garbage and run with it like it came down from the mountain on stone tablets.

Anything that is in writing is assumed, by so many people, to be absolutely true.

I guess as per the original post.

It amazes me that so many of you are so terribly partisan, and often with little experience with life and the political process. It's not the party, it's the issue.

If this is true, Clinton's being absolutely ridiculous. I would say the same if it was the other way around and Bush the Elder was pitching a bitch about not speaking at Clinton's funeral.

And Nixon's funeral was a WHOLE different story than Reagan's, so I wouldn't even go there. I don't think he was particularly close to Ford, and he (Ford) might have made the decision not to speak himself.

Clinton is an ego maniac. This is a funeral people, not a partisan event, baby kissing, hand shaking photo op. Clinton didn't even like Reagan-at all-why did he even attentd? Oh wait....photographers may be there.....

angelove 06-09-2004 10:51 AM

Clinton is just pouty because Reagan's death is taking some press attention away from his new book.

Why does Clinton care? He's busy leading the black community from his Harlem office and that night he's having a fundraiser for the community.

even though this info is from drudge, i'll bite b/c it wouldn't surprise me if clinton was acting this way.

he needs to cool his jets. if the statement that Mrs. Reagan has something to do directly with him not speaking, then he needs to respect that. when it comes down to it, the ppl that watch this funeral and are moved by it aren't going to want to see clinton either. this brings to mind something jay leno showed on the tonight show a few years back (when clinton was President). i forget whose funeral he was at, but there was a clip (a real one) where he was walking out of the church with 2 other gentlemen and he was laughing and carrying on, but as soon as he saw the camera on him, he changed his look to this melodramatic sad crying face.......it was amusing.
