How to save buku time during recruitment!
 

Do any groups use a database system to help keep them organized during recruitment?

If not, I have written one!! I am looking for groups who might be interested in saving VAST amounts of manpower during the hectic days of recruitment. My program allows groups to enter each potential new member (PNM) and her/his basic info, sort on various important information, print clean cards for each PNM, enter scores during recruitment week, etc.

This is just a simple Access program? A basic data entry program?

Thats pretty simplistic, but i guess if a chapter doesn't have anyone with those simple computer skills they might need it. Or they don't want to borrow one of the free similar stuff off the web.

We use an Excel spreadsheet. It's pretty simple.

I'm just a bit curious how one would happen to know enough about other GLO's membership selection procedure to be able to create a program that could be used so universally.

I could see doing something that could apply to other chapters of your own organization maybe... but to all GLO's? I'm a bit skeptical. Or maybe I'm just naive enough to believe that we all actually do have different processes.

Don't worry, we all have the same handshake, but we DO have different member selection procedures! :D :p

Yes, the program puts a pretty front end onto spreadsheet data. But, it allows a more organized view of rush than the crate of paper that my chapter used to cart around each August (it stores legacy and recommendation/introduction info too). It was created specifically b/c I didn't want to spend 4 days in the office crunching numbers every fall (which I would be b/c I was the resident computer person and I don't like calculators!).

Member Magic provides a generic way to do rush w/o spending the man-hours that we are all used to. It is my impression that pretty much every greek group scores rushees during the recruitment process (If I am wrong, let me know). It just makes sense; I mean how else would you rank the 1200+ girls that go through rush at U Texas each year?

Thanks for the kudo, James. I wrote this program to make MY life easier, and it has. The recruitment team at the chapter I advise loves it too, so I thought I might share the wealth with everyone else. Oh, and I wouldn't mind the $$ for it either. :D

NPC sororities have differing membership selection processes? I thought the whole idea behind all the Draconian rush rules was to make sure everybody did everything the same way. No?

No, recruitment rules are in place to help keep an even playing field - they in no way dictate the way that any group selects which women they extend bids to.

And UTexas hasn't had anywhere close to 1200 go through recruitment in at many, many, many - at least 9 (probably more than that) - years.

rush rules -- explained???
 

There is a difference between Panhellenic rules and GLO rules. Panhellenic requires exactly the same thing from each GLO during recruitment, BUT the way each GLO gets what they give to Panhellenic may be completely different. I think the manner is similar, but not exactly the same for each group.

The concept of a program which will speed up the mechanics and organization of membership selection is a good idea. Pi Phi chapters have been using a program called "Rush Guest Select" for at least 5 years (I think closer to 10) that also generates the new member list in the format that HQ requires.

I think it would be hard to make a single program applicable to the process that each group uses. While we all come up with the same thing in the end (a list in the format required by local panhellenic), I doubt we take the same road to get there.
