Have no words to describe how I felt when I read this...
What do you guys think

AKA2D '91 06-08-2004 12:32 PM

Shouldn't that be in the reverse?

I think that the cartoon is insulting people who always question minority achievements- it's never on our own merit, they can always find another reason to doubt us. At least that is what I got out of it.

I also got that out of it. Really, it's a matter of interpretation.

And sometimes comic strips, depending on the reader's POV, aren't meant to make people laugh. Sure that the Boondocks or Mallard Filmore aren't that funny to people who have opposing views to the creators.

I think it is a matter of interpretation. My feeling is that "they" have helped each other SINCE THE BEGINNING and the "helping" that we do do (lol)does not amount to their own hand-ups and hand-outs. That's why I say that strip should be in the reverse.

For we know or have heard about the "crabs in the barrel".

 Exactly. Where is this from?

Choo-ChooAKA 06-08-2004 06:04 PM

Reverse...

I think it's kind of a "reverse racism" satire (i.e., you minorities are always saying this, so I'm going to turn the tables).

Definitely not meant to be "ha-ha" funny.

That cartoonist is Hispanic--the strip is about a Latino family.

Thanks for the info!

See, that is why we shouldn't take things out of context. That info makes a big difference especially since I couldn't tell what "minority" Baldo was. But evenso I also took it as satirical.

Choo-ChooAKA 06-09-2004 11:46 AM

Thanks, Carnation.

Yes, Carnation, thanks for the info. Although it doesn't change the satire, it does change what I think his viewpoint is.

Right! I personally love the Boondocks. But, even I don't agree with everything he says (the political ones).
